The imagery tells a legendary love story where by a young scholar falls in love with the landlord's daughter. Unfortunately, the mother-in-law to be does not accept him with his Royal Exam pass to make him a high ranking official. While he goes off to the capital to take his exams, another suitor comes to steal the daughter! The imagery is very detailed and beautiful. Julio Venegas was born on September 22 1946 in Central Violeta, (a sugar factory town) Camaguey, Cuba.In 1969 he moved to Havana in order to study fine art atSan Alejandro Art School. While at school, he worked as full time salaried fine art painter for Cuban Ministry of Public Health. There he painted landscapes and decorative subjects for different departments of that ministry.In 1980 he emigrated to the United States during the Mariel Boat lift. Rather than settle in Miami, like many other fellow artists and writers, he moved to New York City where he felt he could better develop his art. Venegas is a prolific artist and his work has been exhibited at many art galleries and cultural places as Sareido Gallery, Soho, New York; Jadite Galleries, New York; Cuban Museum, Miami, Florida; Botello Gallerie, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Paterson Museum, Paterson, New Jersey; Watherholt Gallery, Washington DC,among others. His wors including everything from traditional oil on canvas paintings, to painted sculpture from recycled objects. Venegas has been working on different subjects, but always the psychological factor is evident on his works.
