Vintage Georg Jensen sterling silver serving spoon in the rare Leaf & Blossom pattern, number 21. Made in Copenhagen, Denmark. From a vintage collection of Georg Jensen silver. Measures 5 1/4 inches long and weighs approx 32grams. Bowl is clearly hand-hammered. Join to handle sculpted to look like a flower, with waisted handle echoing this theme. Arched handle with looping botantical theme - a lusciously folded leaf with beautiful fine detail partially encloses budding blossoms. This is classic Georg Jensen understated elegance with top quality execution. Inscribed marks underneath: model number 21; Name Georg Jensen in an oval of indented dots; STERLING DENMARK and a rectangle that presumably contains the designers initials. We believe this is the earlier mark used during the 1930''s, not block stamped, but engraved a little less evenly than the similar mark used post 1945. We are open to correction on this issue. Very good condition. Sold to us as Blossom pattern, but it looks like the more rare Leaf and Berry pattern. This was my father's and has been lovingly cared for. It is identified in the catalogue as small, however it is the mid-sized in the series. As most of Georg Jensen’s designs this wine cup is in the Art Nouveau style with the characteristic ornamental curved lines, organic structures, decorative ornaments of flora and fauna, and the use of honest and skillfully crafted materials. In these hollowware pieces Georg Jensen has incorporated nature as decoration. The surface of the actual cup and the foot has the characteristic hammer marks, which Georg Jensen used to soften the reflection of light in the silver in order to create the greyish shimmer he associated with moonshine. The chaser has worked on the stem of the wine cups to accentuate the pattern and has applied the hammer marks on the cups before handing over the pieces to the silversmith. Before soldering together the foot and the stem and then the cup, the silversmith spends a lot of time lining up the pieces to make sure that the angles are absolutely perfect. The smallest inaccuracy will make the wine cup look crooked. Design year: 1928 Materials: Sterling silver Measurements: H. 9.6 cm / 3.77 inches Ø: 7.2 cm / 2.83 inches Condition description: Nearly flawless, slight, barely noticeable tiny indent on side that can be pushed out by a silversmith. Very tiny nick on bottom of cup (not seen) less than the size of the head on a pin. See photos. Very few faint, small surface scratches not seen when polished that can probably be buffered out by a professional. This is superior condition for a vintage piece close to forty years old. It is approximately 6 3/8" long and 2.19 troy ounces. No monogram. Marked Georg Jensen in a beaded circle on one side. The other side is marked STERLING DENMARK.
