This is beautiful original framed display ad for Lazell, Dalley & Co. perfume manufacturers of New York. It is in it''s original frame with the old wood back and old glass. The display is perforated with slots that probably fit together to form a box at one time. The chromolithograph features a gorgeous woman with blond hair, hazel eyes and a white ruffled collar. She is surrounded by giant orchids in full bloom. It is stunning. The frame has slight losses of black paint and the chromo has slight amounts of water damage at the rim. I have owned this piece for over thirty years. It makes a wonderful display for a powder room or any chic interior. I displayed it with vintage commercial perfume bottles in my antiques store. Gatefold, a page larger than the others in a magazine or book, bound so it could be unfolded and opened out like a gate. Well that is a dictionary definition, but the reality was a little different. Esquires gatefolds for the most part used only two pages, unlike Playboy's centerfold that uses three pages of the centerfold. The benefit of Esquires approach is no staple holes in the picture, only a page fold. Original Gatefolds are approximately 14" high by 18" in width and have a vertical fold line in the center. One of the exceptions is January 1946, four pages of a five page gatefold, three fold lines and size approximately 14 1/2" X 36". this particular piece of varga art is 14" X 18" and has been framed in a nice wooden and silver trim frame. It is signed in the lower right corner,a Varga with a circle around esq. Painting by Varga and a verse by Phil Stack. This Varga is in Excellent Condition. Where it folded in the center is hardly noticeable. « Less
