Denver & Colorado SpringsAt the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains is Denver, which as it turns out, is a nexus of antiquing. Covering a 600-mile radius, Denver is surrounded by mountain peaks, miles upon miles of bike trails and plenty of multi-dealers, large malls and individual shops – about 200 in all. This particular area in Denver is called Antique Row Business District – and it’s known for its diversity. Here you can bring home everything from Native American artifacts and New Mexican WPA furniture to signed Thonet chairs and French armoires.
Big shows in the area include the annual Denver Antiques Show & Sale, held on the third weekend in April, and the Worldwide Antiques Show in March, July and August. Smaller shows worth visiting are the Pumpkin Pie Days in October and Strawberry Pie Days. Denver is also home to some stunning museums, such as the former home of the “unsinkable Molly Brown,†the Colorado History Museum and the Denver Art Museum. 70 miles south of Denver is Colorado Springs, home to over 30 antique shops and malls. Stroll through these shops and you’ll find items ranging from Asian Art, Native American artifacts, and items from the Old West. On the show front, there’s the Pikes Peak Western Collectible Show, held in the last weekend of July. En-route, don’t forget your skis if you’re traveling during the Winter, as skiing doesn’t get much better than Colorado.
