One of the most sought-after ancient silver vessels of the Peruvian cultures! From the Chimu culture of northern Peru, dating between 1000 and 1300 A.D., this vessel is a sheet silver, hammer-molded cup depicting a stylized human head, having a stepped headdress and bold facial features. Strong surface deposits, blackish patina and areas of ancient cloth still adhering to surface. 7-1/8"H, intact/excellent condition, save one tiny hole on nose. Looks fabulous as it is, but if you prefer a shiny finish, some polishing would certainly highlight the solid silver content! Ancient Pre-Columbian Diadems from Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 800 - 1425 A.D. Made from sheets of silver, headbands like these were the symbol of power of warrior priests who wore them on their forehead as part of a headdress at rites and other public appearances. The 10"L wide example appears to be only a partial headband and features a raised pebble pattern; the 11"L narrow band is decorated with a repeating geometric pattern with a large raised dot in the center of each geometric element. Both have bends and creases, plus a few minor losses. Category:Peruvian Material:Silver Dimensions:10"L, 11"L Condition:Intact « Less

Ancient primitive stone implement from South America, Surinam region, ca. 900 - 1500 A.D. Originally, the country was spelled Surinam by English settlers who founded the first colony at Marshall's Creek along the Suriname River, and was formerly known as Nederlands Guyana, Netherlands Guiana or Dutch Guiana. Suriname's earliest inhabitants were the Surinen Indians, after whom the country is named. This early example is hand-crafted from "Devil's Toenail" Stone. While not a large number of these primitive tools exist today, most specimens were found in rivers, river banks or creeks. A simple petaloid axe like this one would have been inserted in a shaft, protruding from the back side of the handle. Stone axes were the most important tool in aboriginal Guianan and Amazonian society for wood-working, especially for farmers that used slash-and-burn agricultural techniques. Stone axes might have been used as weapons, but certainly that was not a general use of them. 6"L x 2-7/8"W x 1"D, intact/excellent condition. One of the truly most "amusing" vessels we have ever encountered... and such a testament to the sense of humor enjoyed by this fascinating culture! The joke here is that this kero can only be used by using the extended penis as a straw. If you attempt to drink via the rim, as one would usually do, the holes will cause the liquid to drench you and not quench your thirst. Moche, northern Peru, ca. 100-300 A.D. Tapered conical bi-chrome pottery drinking vessel with a flat bottom, erect penis spout at midsection. Nicely-burnished tan ground exterior decorated with two wide and two narrow painted cream color bands. Upper rim with a ring of perforations. 5-1/2â€H, repaired from approximately three original pieces, with restoration over breaklines, plus a few minor restored rim chips. A rare type.
