Classic Inca! Called a pacqha or paccha, from ancient Peru, ca. 1450 - 1532 AD, Central Andes, South America. This ceramic vessel is in the form of a maize cob and storage pot (aryballos) for ritually important maize beer. It represents the production of maize, the staple food of the Inca. Research of similar pacqha suggests it had been ceremonially planted in the ground and used to pour maize beer into the sacred earth. 9-1/4"L x 7-1/4"H, repair to one handle, else intact/excellent.
