In place of the bolder scale and sweep usually encountered in such carpets, this example has a field design of interlacing arabesque vinescrolls arranged in a latent compartment format. The tiny flowers interspersed among the vines create a ‘millefiori’ effect across the soft Butterscotch ground. A finely worked vinescroll border set against a teal ground reverses the color effects of the field while preserving a uniform palette across the entire composition.
