Antique Kerman, Persia, circa 1900. A dazzlingly complex lace-like medallion of classical Persian derivation spreads across the field of this elegant antique Kerman. The medallion is framed by cornerpieces made up of swirling vines, while sprays of flowers serve as finials at its upper and lower ends. A welter of flowering vines fills the intervening areas. Multiple narrow borders combine to frame the field, offering a suitable framing contrast in scale and color. The relatively rich palette of reds, blues, and greens recalls the saturated coloration of the early Persian forerunners, underscoring strong classical heritage of the carpet. Antique Kerman Persian Rugs by Master Aboul Ghasem Kermani, late nineteenth century - On this elegant antique Kerman prayer rug, made by the 'master of masters,' Aboul Ghasem Kermani, a graceful tree of life climbs gently heavenward, its branches filled with flowers, fruit, and exotic feeding birds, while a snaky dragon slithers up the trunk. An ornamental arch or mihrab with flowering spandrels crowns the composition. A design of trees and flowering branches filled with birds makes up the borders, nicely continuing the imagery of the field. The gentle, warm palette with earth tones complemented by soft shades of green and red sets off the delicacy of the design to great effect. This is an elegantly simple but yet appealing 2 pieces Buffet made from a beautifully patinaed cherry during the reign of Louis Philippe by the first hn. alf of the 19th century. This stunning and tall piece is mounted by a flat molded cornice sitting upon a pair of glass doors mounted with their original glass panes and revealing an efficient display area, all standing above the buffet below, providing additional storage thanks to a 2-drawer frieze and a pair of recessed paneled doors hiding another large compartment. 43076 Antique Bakshaish, Persia, late nineteenth century This extraordinary antique Bakshaish has a design derived from Caucasian rugs woven further north. In the field is a series of quatrefoil medallions surrounded by barberpole outlines in diamond configuration which emit in turn antenna-like projections to either side. Smaller medallions with internal palmettes and dragon-like floral motifs fill the remaining space of the field. A rich figure-eight vinescroll or ‘crab’ border encloses the field, with reinforcing minor borders of serial rosettes. But despite the arresting design, the ultimate glory of this rug is the rich and varied range of colors, especially the way they work together as a diverse yet harmonious ensemble.
