Antique Kerman, Persia, circa 1900 This stately antique Kerman boasts a centralized interlocking compartment design of classical Persian or Safavid derivation. Some of the compartments are distinguished by their ground color, while others retain the uniform golden tan ground of the field itself. A mesh of fine, undulating floral detail welters this way and that within the various compartments. A grand palmette and vinescroll main border retains the same coloration, scale, and design texture as the field, which gives the entire carpet a strong decorative unity. Antique Kerman, Persia, circa 1900This stylishly opulent antique Kerman has classical Persian design. At the center a multi-petaled oval medallion floats amidst a jungle of lush leafy foliage, surrounded in turn by arabesque vinescroll cornerpieces. An equally lush vinescroll border repeats the detail of the field, but arranged into sequential cartouches. Despite the rich complexity of the design, cool tone-on-tone coloration imparts a calm, reserved impression to the overall composition, greatly enhancing the decorative potential of the carpet. Antique Malayer Carpet from Persia, circa 1900This elegant antique Malayer is remarkable in its use of the same basic pattern to comprise all the elements of the field. The medallion, cornerpieces and the ground are all built up on the Herati design; only the orientation and coloration of the elements vary, but this is sufficient to make the different areas appear to contrast. Conversely, the borders do utilize different motifs, but their color and graphic detail make them relate closely to the medallion and cornerpieces. The design structured about a central vertical column or candelabra that stands out amidst a larger viney network or trellis, with smaller vine sprays filling the remaining ground area. Antique Bakhtiari, Persia, circa 1910 - Though tribal weavers, the Bakhtiari are famed for their ability to create carpets in a classical urban style as well. This magnificent antique Bakhtiari is inspired by the great Safavid court carpets of seventeenth-century Persia. At the center a grand rosette medallion reminiscent of a cathedral rose window radiates outward against a soft apricot field filled with sinuous spiral arabesque vines. Arabesque cornerpieces on a soft blue ground frame the medallion and vines, while the arabesque vinescroll border on darker blue echoes the coloration of the medallion. Despite the lace-like delicacy of the classical design, the spontaneous tribal drawing of the Bakhtiari weavers still shows through. Truly a one of a kind. This 1920 curved soprano sax was custom made by H.N.White of Cleveland, Ohio. According to the White family, no soprano saxes were "Voll-True", it had to be custom ordered.
