41302 Antique Tabriz, Persia, circa 1900 - The spectacular antique Tabriz is inspired by classical Persian garden carpets of the eighteenth century. The field is divided by intersecting borders into four quadrants, each divided yet again by finer borders into six squares with their own miniatures compositions of shrubs inhabited by animals. Shifting ground colors help to set the various squares apart from one another. A broad arabesque vinescroll main border encloses the entire field, with flanking minor borders to help frame the overall composition. Here we see a decorative image of paradise rendered as a centralized pattern of whispy vines. The use of palmettes is sparing, allowing space for the lovely menagerie of animals and birds. Drooping palm trees in all four corners suggest that this is as much a landscape as an ornamental design. Do you need a sidekick? Well here's the world's most loyal sidekick waiting for you. Senor Panza stands 16" tall upon a book with the letter "V" on the spine. He is carved from tight grain, American long leaf pine. His expression is hopeful and serene as he rests his hands on his low slung belt. His buckled Spanish shoes and too small coat clue the viewer to his identity. His age is unknown, but a crack down his back tells he's been around a very long time. Antique Bakhtiari, Persia, late nineteenth century. Although antique Bakhtiari carpets represent a village or tribal rug weaving tradition, some, like this splendid example, draw upon the sophisticated repertoire of urban Persian carpet design. In the field a series of elaborate flowering palmettes in shades of red, green, and blue repeat across a soft ivory ground, while a trellis of stylized branches and curling leaves unifies the various palmettes as a staggered allover design. A zig-zag vinescroll rosette border on soft blue surrounds the field, flanked by minor vinescroll borders as an added framing effect. Here the angular abstract geometry of village weaving nicely balances the suave complexity of the urban floral ornamental elements. Here is an impressive Sideboard made from solid and nicely patinaed walnut during the second half of the 19th century; featuring an impressive façade providing a 4-drawer frieze mounted with wrought iron handles upon 4 recessed paneled doors embellished with acanthus and floral pattern, all flanked by boldly sculpted fluted columns lovely adorned with ribbon and fruits motifs and standing on ball feet. The 4 paneled doors reveal a large storage compartment. Note minor scratched and dents here and there due to the age. Circa date 1870. Dimensions 38”(height)/ 73”(wide)/ 18”(depth).
