This is a Qing dynasty porcelain bee hive shaped water pot. It is sometimes referred to taibo zun or qizhao (chicken coop) in Chinese. The only difference for this piece is that this bee hive water pot does not have a neck with a small mouth. The domed shaped body has a countersunk base which is unglazed exposing the fine white colour porcelain. The pokka dot glazing makes the water pot glazing quite unusual and possibly a scarce item.
This piece could also be the pro-type to the beach bloom colour as the lime and apple green glaze has shown that too thick an application of the lime and apple green colour may cause black blotches as the clear glaze just run around it, thus causing it to burn into black colour as shown in Pic 3. Nonethless it still looks pretty attractive. The glassy glazing stop about 1 cm just before the base. Circa 19th century.
There is no crack, chip, glaze fritting, repair or restoration. Only minor pin holes and glaze crazing. Overall, the bee hive water pot is in good condition.
The dimension of the bee hive water pot: The base diameter is 12.4cm and the height is 7.4cm.
