FOR SERIOUS TORTOISE SHELL COLLECTORS. RARE blonde tortoise shell jewelry box. Might have been used as a tea caddy from that time period. The measurements are 12'w x 8"d x 5' h. This box has a few cracks but, NO CHIPS to the shell. On the right back side has a slight touch of discoloration but as you can see it is in excellent condition for being 230 years old. I have been doing research online trying to find a similar box in size and can not find any blonde tortoise similar to this. I am assuming based on the blonde veneer they are very hard to find.I have a small collection of 3 boxes listed that have been in my family for generations. I am looking to sell 2 of the 3 boxes.I would make a package deal on any two. They are a perfect addition to any serious collection and absolutely beautiful to look at. I hope the next home enjoys the box as much as my family has. For more pictures and information you can contact me at buzzy1111@gmail.com ph. 561 252 2066 « Less

This genuine ancient silver coin from Rhodes has been set in a modern 18 karat gold pendant. The beautiful island of Rhodes was very prosperous during the 4th Century, in large measure due to its five ideally situated harbors. Following the defeat of Demetrius (304/4), the Rhodians constructed their famous lighthouse (one of the seven wonders of the world), in honor of their patron god Helios. It is this brilliant deity who shines on this lovely coin. He is depicted as a young man of great beauty with flowing locks of hair like rays of the sun. On the reverse is a delicate rose bud just about to flower. This pendant is a reminder of a splendid age, that still radiates warmth through the art of coinage. - (FJ.6468) « Less

Collection: Russian Gold Pin
Style: Russian
Medium: Rose Gold-Diamonds
Additional Information: Sold
Shaped somewhat like a crown this ornate pin immediately conjures images of Imperial Russia. The uppermost section is a semi-circle studded with diamonds, which fans out then narrows to a. central oval shape holding a diamond in the middle: The two 'wings' spread out in a lovely twisting pattern, ending into dual danglers on either side of the central extension. A definite floral motif can be detected, especially in the two 'open flowers' like daisies flanking the semi-circle. Though very elaborate, with its intricate twists and turns, the essential unity is held together by a refined sense of composition and balance. - (FJ.6560) « Less

The love of ornament is as old as civilization itself. By wearing jewelry that is unusual or unique, we define ourselves as individuals and set ourselves apart from the crowd. Throughout antiquity, in every great culture, beads were formed from colored gems, glass, ceramic, shell, bone and metal in an endless variety of shapes and sizes. Sometimes they were worn for their magical or curative powers, at other times simply for their beauty. They were worn by people, highborn and low, the citizen of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Judea, Greece, Rome and Byzantium. Frequently these jewels, so prized in life, were buried with their owners to adorn them through eternity. When we wear them today, we add another chapter to their long and fascinating history. - (SB.0090) « Less

The delicate profile on this cameo bears a striking resemblance to Sabina, wife of the emperor Hadrian. This lovely echo of antiquity does not seem the product of a particular age or time, but rather seems to possess an eternal beauty, as much at home in our age as in any other. - (SJ.0053) « Less

Centuries ago, these beads must have been the cherished possession of some fabled beauty. Their rich, earthy color surely complimented the dark luster of her eyes to perfection. Perhaps most remarkable about these beads is that they appeal to the contemporary eye with the same simple elegance that must have delighted ancient tastes. True beauty transcends time, as the woman who wears these splendid strands today will certainly prove. - (FB.0030) « Less

Medium: Sardonyx and Gold
Additional Information: Sold
Cameos are hard or precious stones carved in relief. The cameo is usually a gem (commonly agate, onyx, or sardonyx) having two different colored layers, with the figures carved in one layer so that they are raised on a background of the other. The cameo is the converse of the intaglio, which consists of an incised, or sunken, engraving in the same class of materials.Cameos exist in large numbers from the early Sumerian period (c. 3100 BC) to the decline of Roman civilization, from the Renaissance to the Neoclassical period in the 18th century. While Greek cameos were purely decorative (as opposed to intaglios, which were used as seals), Roman cameos were usually carved with portraits and mythological scenes. This stunning cameo represents a lion, a symbol of strength and ferocity associated with kings and rulers since the days of antiquity. The largest of the cat family, this animal is known as the “king of the beasts.†They are equally feared and respected for their power, speed, and intimidating growl. Today, mounted in a gorgeous 18 karat Roman gold ring dating from the 1930’s modeled after Classical examples, this cameo is a stunning centerpiece symbolic of the strength and fortitude of the Roman Empire. - (FJ.7129) « Less

This Ancient Mask Has Been Mounted More »
Origin: Mediterranean
Circa: 100 AD to 300 AD

Medium: Bronze and Gold
Additional Information: SOLD
This Ancient Mask Has Been Mounted in a Modern 18 Karat Gold RingThis unusual small mask depicts a face with long wavy locks of hair and deep, baggy eyes. The definition of the eyelids and the crow’s feet wrinkles in the corner of her temples suggest that this woman is of some age. However, the rest of her skin and the areas around her mouth appear quite youthful and taut, suggesting instead that she may be worried of frightened. The general appearance of this woman calls to mind the famed serpent-haired Gorgon Medusa. Surely the grave eyes of this woman would suit Medusa, whose imposing gaze was said to turn anyone who looked at her into stone. Judging from the wide shape of this mask, it appears as though it might have been a decorative button. In Roman times, buttons were most often used on leather garments. Perhaps this mask was used as a button on the leather outfits worn by soldiers underneath their heavy armor. If this were the case, surely the association with Medusa would be quite fitting, for this frightful Gorgon would serve as a powerful talisman in battle. Today, this ancient bronze mask serves as a stunning centerpiece for this modern gold ring. - (FJ.6891) « Less
