The drawing is so controlled that it suggests latent patterns of intersecting circles and diamonds across the entire design. Multiple floral borders continue the effect of infinite geometric repetition as well as the pleasing juxtaposition of chocolate and earthy orange tones. Antique Sarouk-Farahan, Persia, late nineteenth centurySarouk-Farahans are renowned among Persian carpets for the refined and elegant treatment of classical medallion designs. But this example is distinguished not only by the grace and finesse of its design, but above all by its unusual allover composition. The basic design consists of interlacing spiral tendrils, but the changes in the ground color create a compartment or cartouche effect, entirely transforming the visual impression. The palmette border is also exceptionally lush, almost Mughal in style. Add to this the reserved palette of earthen tones and pale blues, and we have here one of the most extraordinary Sarouk-Farahans to be found. 43370 Antique Kashan, Persia, late nineteenth century - This antique Kashan evokes all the elegance and grandeur of the classical Persian carpets produced centuries earlier. At the center of the field is a scalloped medallion with large finials. Arabesque spandrels complement the medallion at the four corners of the field, while the intervening tan ground is filled with a ‘millefleurs’ pattern reminiscent of embroidered Kashmir shawls. In the main border a finely proportion interlacing vinescroll is set against cool blue ground that echoes the central medallion. Antique Shirvan, Caucasus, late nineteenth century A series of geometric medallions in ivory and red repeats across a dark blue ground on this meticulously detailed antique Shrirvan. Within each of these is a smaller quatrefoil medallion spewing forth branches or vines rendered as latchhooks, with smaller stylized animals scattered across the remaining space. A series of borders enclose the field – first an S-Dragon border, then a stylized vinescroll, and finally a double vinescroll or ‘crab” border. Shrivans are prized for the perfection of their weave and their crisp drawing, but this example is exceptional even among the best of its kind. Antique Shahsevan Long Rug, from Persia, circa 1870 Larger Shahsevan rugs are uncommon, and often they are mistaken for rugs from the nearby Caucasus region. This spectacular example has the unusual design, spontaneous drawing, and rich color that sets them apart from Kazaks or Karabaghs. A series of large diamond latch hook medallions repeats down the field, each enclosed in a compartment of different color. Inner stepped medallions with linear embellishment fill the diamonds, whose interior coloration varies as well. The remainder of each compartment has a varied array of space fillers. An exciting border of hooked elements, simplified trees, and diamond rosettes is set against red ground that firmly frames and anchors the dynamic composition of the field, with one last outer wine-glass border on an ivory ground as the final touch. An amusing and nicely colored engraving made by Salvatore Tresca (Italian Sculptor born in 1750 and died in 1815 in Paris) from a work of Louis Boilly (Born in 1761 and died in 1845) representing a flirty scene in a Brothel with a young Lady inviting a gentleman. This piece of work is called On La Tire Aujourd’Hui , which is actually what the lady is asking to this gentleman. Note that the frame is estimated to be from the end of the 19th century with its original glass. The frame itself has minor chips here and there. It might be necessary to replace it. Circa date 1800. Here is an extremely comfortable pair of armchairs made from solid walnut by the middle part of the 20th century. This impressively massive pair is covered by floral upholstery trimmed by large brass nails and featured a boldly sculpted pair of acanthus shaped armrests flanking the large seat, all supported by a sturdy pediment with barley twisted stretchers that insure stability and sturdiness. FOR SERIOUS COLLECTORS.. A Rare beautiful blonde tortoise shell tea caddy with ivory feet and pargoda shaped top. Measurements are 8" w x 5"d x 6"h.There are a few cracks but, no chips to the tortoise shell.Has a tiny bit of discoloration around the back right hinge. This caddy is in excellent condition as you can see. I have a small collection that has been in my family for generations, I would like to sell 2 of the 3 boxes and would make a package deal for anyone interested.. A perfect addition to any collection. measurements are 6 1/2w X 4"d X 6 h. This caddy has a few cracks and a couple chips but is in good condition, I could have it touched up but decided to keep it in its original condition. The only small chip that stands out is on the back where the shell is lighter then the other sides. The other chips or wear and tear blend in to the darker shell.It is in good condition considering the caddy is over 230 years old. I have 3 boxes listed and would like to sell only 2 of the 3 boxes listed. I would sell 2 as a package deal for anyone interested. for more info or pictures please contact me.
