Swedish Tapestry or Kilim Rug, circa 1920Though strikingly modern in its simplicity, this lovely Swedish tapestry rug or Rollakan almost approaches the design of classic Navajo rugs and blankets. The abstract geometric elements are sparingly used, with considerable open space, allowing the rug to rely primarily on the effects of beautiful color -soft cinnamon, tans, and pale yellow. Only the stripes at either end impose a framing structure amidst the clarity and freedom.

Woven on the tapestry looms of Aubusson, this neoclassical French rug features an architectural frame and acanthus leaf scroll-work with the addition of clusters of cabbage roses in the corners and central cartouches. Although the carpet features many baroque and continental design elements, the earthy color palette is not completely rococo. The rich color scheme, which can be seen in the distinct color change to cocoa-brown in the border, gives this fine Aubusson carpet a stately appearance.

This is an elegantly simple desk made from solid and nicely patinaed cherry by the first quarter of the 20th century. This lovely piece is topped by a serpentine shaped yellowish leather top trimmed by gilt borders and honoring the serpentine shape of the top, which can be extended thanks to matching pull out leaves. The façade is simple and provides a 3-drawer frieze mounted with acanthus shaped handles and escutcheon. The pediment consists of boldly sculpted cabriole legs providing sturdiness. Note that leather is not original and estimated to be 10-20 years old. It is in used but still good condition. Circa date 1920. Dimensions 30â€high/ 54â€long/ 82â€long with leaves out/ 30â€deep.

Antique Scandinavian Swedish Rug, first half of the twentieth century While many Scandinavian rugs are rooted in folk art traditions reaching back to medieval times, this example reflects the design of Turkish or Persian village weavings, with its central medallion and cornerpieces defining a hexagonal field. Still, the strongly rectilinear drawing and lovely coloration in soft blues tans, apricot, and green are decidedly Swedish, recalling the formal detail and palette of Rollakan tapestry rugs. This charming piece shows that Scandinavian weaving never lost touch with the oriental carpets that inspired it centuries earlier.
