Art Deco Rug, circa 1920's This stunningly classic Art Deco carpet revels in the beauty of pure geometry and exquisite color. Sections of circles articulated with parallel and concentric lines float across the mauve-lavender field, ensnared so to speak, by a diagonal linear grid superimposed above them. Additional linear embellishment fills portions of the grid. The entire composition challenges our notions of space and symmetry while teasing our sense of decoration. A masterpiece of early modernism.

Antique Kerman Persian Rug by Master Aboul Ghasem Kermani, late nineteenth centuryThis exquisite antique rug is the work of the great "master of masters," Aboul Ghasem More »
Antique Kerman Persian Rug by Master Aboul Ghasem Kermani, late nineteenth centuryThis exquisite antique rug is the work of the great "master of masters," Aboul Ghasem Kermani. Treading the line between ornament and pictorial representation, its shows a lush forest full of animal inhabitants, including the crowned lions and eagle, symbols of the reigning Qajar Dynasty. Ultimately the composition is the setting for the classic Persian legend of Leila and her lover Majnoun, who is shown kneeling and despondent as he gazes upon the image of his beloved. Here we have the Persian equivalent of a masterpiece by Raphael or Titian. For other carpets in our collection made by Master Kermani, see inventory numbers 2991, 3206, 3412, 3416, 2910, and 42108.

Antique Persian Kilim Rug, late 19th centuryThis striking antique Persian kilim has considerable power and presence, not only in the boldly drawn medallion design, but especially in the varied, rich coloration. The floral details are strongly stylized or abstracted allowing the weaver's sense of geometry to prevail. The various design elements are grand in scale, especially in relation to the overall size. A masterpiece of village weaving.

A simplistic Moroccan design with an amazing appearance. Henna-colored lines dip down, ticked by small slash marks. The lines dissolve dissolve into chaos, weaving in and out of each other, with other lines broken into smaller inky dots. A creamy ivory colored fur attractively contrasts the deep lines that cut through the background. While this rug is not as nearly complex as the Islamic or Central Asian influenced Moroccan rugs, it beautifully presents the art of Moroccan culture on a rug that easily stands out and enhances the appearance of any room in your home.
Style: Region Specific
Origin: Morocco

Modern Tapestry, FRance, 1973 This modern French tapestry design signed and dated by Fronard is the epitome of contemporary elegance. One may see it as pure abstraction or as a cliff-like landscape. In either case it is a supremely beautiful and decorative composition, not least of all by virtue of the lovely palette of earthy tones with sparing use of red and black.
