A Warren Platner (1919) high-back lounge chair structured with steel wire frames waisted to shape the base and a fiberglass shell, reupholstered in red wool cotton fabric. Manufactured by Knoll, 1966. This model is not edited anymore. Warren Platner (1919-) graduated from the Cornell University School of Architecture in 1941. Following his work with legendary designers Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and I. M. Pei, he immersed himself in the creation of steel wire furniture. Notable among his residential and commercial projects are the Georg Jensen Design Centre and the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Centre, both in New York City. Very good condition. Sculpture in serpentine marble representing a crouching man. Signed on the back by Richard Mteki who was born in 1947 in Zimbabwe, where he joined during his youth the workshop School of the National Gallery. Mteki most common subject is the human form: " in many of his sculpted heads it is as if a peaceful hand had passed over the brow, shutting the eyes for sleeping" (C. Winter-Irving, author of "The stone sculpture in Zimbvabwe"). Mteki has been chosen to represent Zimbabwe through governement commissions for the state buildings and as gifts for foreign dignitaries. He's now one of the most prominent and collectables names in Zimbabwean sculpture. His works have been extensively collected in Germany, United Kingdom and the United States. Very good condition. 43947 Antique Khotan, East Turkestan, circa 1900 - A classic Chinese medallion design repeats down the field of this princely antique Khotan. A large scalloped medallion occupies the center of the field with smaller round one above and below. Meander cornerpieces define a long hexagonal field with stylized openwork shrubs in the intervening blue ground. Successive borders frame the field – an inner vinescroll followed by serial rosettes, and a cloudband main border, with a neutral outer stripe.
