This is a primitive but appealing Wine Tasting Table made from solid pine during the middle part of the 18th century consisting of a square top sitting upon a simple belt providing a single drawer supported by a straight pediment with 4 legs connected to each other by H-shaped stretcher that provides stability and sturdiness. Note several scratches and dents here and there due to the age and that the handle has been replaced at some point. Circa date 1750. The ocean in the middle of the rug seems to overwhelm the constraints of the design, washing and overtaking the outer regions of the rug. The top of the design resembles an bloodless shore where seed-like blots of ink dominate the land. This is a truly magnificent Moroccan rug that integrates the tribal designs of pre-Islamic Morocco and North Africa in a unique design. Antique Demirçi Kula, Turkey, mid nineteenth century - This superb Demirçi Kula exemplifies the rug collector’s gold standard for Turkish pieces produced in the decades preceding the commercialization of village weaving. The finely stepped hexagonal field is filled with a classic Kula design of geometric arabesques and palmettes in pale blue and terracotta strewn across a rich cinnamon ground. Additional palmettes fill the navy cornerpieces that round out the field. A stunning carnation vinescroll border on a pale gold ground frames the field, supported by additional minor borders. The drawing is crisp and animated in the best Kula tradition, with a lustrous wool pile that maximizes the effects of the rich yet delicate color. Antique Dagestan Prayer Rug, late nineteenth century - This antique Dagestan is exceptional for the quality of its color and the power of its design. The classic East Caucasian stylized arch or mihrab surmounts a field of diagonal stripes and tiny pulsating squares. The dynamic 'dragon' border with its enclosing minor borders of rosettes and z-forms repeats the coloration of the field, while providing strong contrasts of design. Antique Isfahan from Central Persia, late nineteenth centuryAn allover reciprocal compartment design of ogival medallions and concave pentagons in shades of pale rose, salmon, gray, and saffron repeats across the field of this sumptuous antique Isfahan. The contours of the compartments are rendered by fine leafy tendrils, while their interiors are filled with detailed palmettes and small flowers. A grand, sweeping arabesque palmette border continues the coloration and design texture of the field, although adapted to a different pattern. Smaller arabesque borders in saffron accentuate the main one, helping to provide a clear framing effect for the entire composition.   « Less
