A Louis XV style mantle clock in gilded and chiseled bronze. This rococo style clock is nicely decorated with foliage and is topped with a Love holding a sundial and More »
A Louis XV style mantle clock in gilded and chiseled bronze. This rococo style clock is nicely decorated with foliage and is topped with a Love holding a sundial and decorated under the enameled dial of a quiver of arrows and a torch. The ormolu or gilt bronze had in the 18th century an extraordinary development which found its origin under the reign of Louis XIV, with the installation of a foundry for Domenico Cucci at the Gobelins. Bronze allows artisans, under Louis XV, to show the greatest imagination and adapt the new rococo style. The first part of the reign of Louis XV is marked by the new importance of the ornament which lead to the rococo style. The term rocaille found its origine in the mineral world and indicate small stones, rocks and piece of glass of irregular form. Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750) is the first one to use the term rocaille to define patterns inspired of shells of irregular forms or asymmetrical. Once introduced in the interior decoration the shell knew an exceptionnal development. The infatuation for the shells and the minerals are part of general interest for natural history. Rocaille and shells are the basic elements of decoration but also we note the presence of elements from the vegetable, floral and mineral world, sometimes stylized as the leaves and foliage in the friezes, sometimes realistic as laurel or oaks branches, they reflect the predominance of nature as a model. This Napoleon III clock use the rococo style popular under the reign of Louis XV. Very good condition. Napoléon III Period, Circa: 1850. Dim: W: 10,6 in - D: 7,1in - H: 16,5in. « Less

An important pair of vases in brown cherry red marble baluster-shaped ornate with rich giltbronze Louis XV style mounts. The two handles are decorated with foliage. After the More »
An important pair of vases in brown cherry red marble baluster-shaped ornate with rich giltbronze Louis XV style mounts. The two handles are decorated with foliage. After the Revolution, the french bourgeoisie and the court of Napoleon III dreamed of finding the splendor and elegance of the Old Regime. The influence of the Empress Eugenie, who devotes a boundless admiration for Marie-Antoinette, is crucial in this new fashion. The new wealthy industry leaders relay this new trend, which allows them to surround themselves with an aristocratic background, copied from the previous century. In the middle of the nineteenth century, between 1852 and 1870 under the reign of Napoleon III and much later, appear the " style" furniture and objets d'art, perfect replicas of those created in the eighteenth century. Very good condition. Napoléon III Period, Circa: 1870. Dim: W: 13 in - D: 9,1in - H: 21,7in. Epoque Napoléon III, Circa: 1870 Dim: L:33cm, P:23cm, H:55cm. « Less

A pair of blue and gilt Paris porcelain ovoid vases, signed Deroche, with two handles decorated with medallions. The body of the vases is ornamented with two polychrome cartouches representing two bunches of flowers, with a rectangular brown background on one side, and a white oval medallion on the other. We do not know when Pierre Deroche began to sell porcelain but he appeared for the first time in the list of porcelain merchants in 1801-1802. Maybe Deroche had several porcelain suppliers because he was just a merchant and it seems he was not a decorator. Very good condition. Empire Period, Circa: 1815. Dim: W: 8,3 in - D: 5,1in - H: 15,7in. Epoque Empire, Circa: 1815 Dim: L:21cm, P:13cm, H:40cm. « Less
