Although documented as a sword, this example of a Seme is smaller than usual. Almost as though it was created for an important youth, it is none the less is a well forged and sharp blade housed in a hide scabbard, dyed with natural pigment, in traditional red. The belt is worked to simulate reptile skin and is original to the sword. The scabbard also has a metal and bead adornment at the tip. Again suggesting that this mayy have been for a youth of importance, one can only speculate since this sword has been in a US collection for almost 20 years. In very good condition with only some spotting and darkening on the blade and normal scabbard and hilt wear. Early to Mid 20thC. Overall length in scabbard,16", blade 9.5", hilt 5" « Less

An 18th C British Officers cavalry saber and original scabbard. The classically curved blade has gold fire gilt brass fittings and blued panels with gilt armorial and Georgian cypher engraving. The lions head pommel hilt crowns a dark wood or gutta-percha grip with a finely checkered surface. The blade has several small areas of dark rust as shown in the accompanying images, there is, in addition, some surface abrasion from age and use but it is otherwise sound and with a good tip. The blued panels are worn but attractive and both the Georgian Cypher and British Coat of Arms are clearly portrayed in the central of each opposing panel. The leather scabbard has brass fire gilt mounts with approximately 50% of the original finish. The scabbard leather is dry and has one break in the upper back area. A very good example of a Napoleonic era British Cavalry Saber. Late 18th C. Overall length 36", blade 29". « Less

Called Trumbash by the Mangbetu, this artistically appealing knife has been the subject of much misinformation. According to both Werner Fischer and Verlag Morsak, this well forged knife was for prestige. Worn or carried at important events, it symbolized the importance and wealth of the individual owners. Iron had to be traded for at great expense and thus represented power in all its forms. This knife with its well crafted blade and traditional wood handle, was often considered a kind of currency in negotiating important agreements among the Mangbetu and their neighbors. The good quality blade has darkened with age, yet the craftsmanship is apparent. The wood handle is in the traditional shape often found on this style of knife. It has one crack as shown, but is in all other respects in very good condition. First half of the 20thC. Overall length, 14.5", handle 6", blade 8.5 x 7" « Less

Probably a one of a kind, Veterans, Guild or Masonic Lodge dagger. The French blade is a well made example of the late 18th and early 18th C, with a partial signature. The brass hilt and scabbard are remarkable in their detail. The scabbard bears a French Phrygian cap, a symbol of the Revolution as well as for Liberty in the American Revolution. The flaming bomb and stacked cannon balls along with masonic square and compass, suggest a Guild or Lodge of Artillery Veterans. The owners initials, LL appear both on the scabbard as well as the hilt pommel. The brass hilt bears different classical images, in relief, on each side. The quillons may have been removed? A fascinating piece of Revolutionary or Masonic history or perhaps both?. Length 15.75", blade 11.5". C1800. « Less

This item has been SOLD. A very good example of a quality, Brass hilted, Imperial German Watchmans sword with engraved blade. The configuration is often confused with, Artillery NCO "walking out" or dress sidearms. The blade bears the trade mark of the sword makers Clemen and Jung of Solingen. The slightly curved, plated blade bears their attractive "Standard" engraving which is clear and unspoiled with the frosted background 99% in tact. The blade itself has some spotting at the tip and a few small spots of rust. The leather scabbard is sound and the seams intact although the leather surface has flaked due to dryness. This is also the probable reason for a bit of shrinkage in the length of the scabbard. By the end of the 19th C the tradition of the reserve or retired military night watchman who had stood guard over the townships and cities of Germany had ended. This handsome sword is a momento of that tradition. Overall length 27.75", blade 22.5". « Less

This item has been SOLD. A 1958, Cold War era, Soviet sextant in very nice condition. The lens and mirrors are in very good condition and most of the original paint remains. The wood box seems to have spaces for accessories that are missing. The sextant and a telescope sight device appear to be original to the case. The olive drap paint suggest military application but we are unclear on that point. The case size is 11.5"x11.5"x5". The sextant is approximately 9.5"x9.5". « Less
