Boylston Antiques is Proud to Offer for Sale
A Spindle Back Stenciled Cottage Side Chair C. 1860-1875
A Spindle Back Cottage Side Chair with a stenciled crest rail. The crest rail is slightly concave, about 3 inches wide, with the upper edge a continuous flat curve. The lower edge is scroll arched. The ends of the rail extend beyond the vase and ring turned back uprights. Between this rail and a conforming cross slat are four vase, knob and ring turned spindles.
• The crest rail is stenciled with gold floral and leaf forms on a black ground. The black ground is rimmed with mustard.
• The cane seat is a simplified shield shape. The cane is in good condition for its age.
• The front legs are tapered, cylinder, knob and ring turned.
• The rear legs are a continuation of the rear stiles, plain turned, tapered and flaired.
• The rear stiles are vase, knob and ring turned, with olive-green bands rimmed by mustard on each side.
• The front stretcher is vase and ring turned, with an olive green band ringed by mustard.
• The double side stretchers and single rear stretcher are plain.
• The crest rail height is 33†from the floor.
• The seat sits 17 1/2†from the floor.
• The seat is 15 1/2†wide at the front, tapering down to 12 ½†at the rear.
• The seat depth is 15â€.
• The chair weight is 7 pounds.
A drawing of this type of chair may be found on P. 74 of Thomas Ormsbee’s book entitled “A Field Guide to American Victorian Furnitureâ€.
This chair is in as found condition. The surface patina is nicked, worn and flaked, as expected in a chair approaching 153 years of age. The chair joints are not really loose but somewhat fragile. The chair rocks slightly under weight; this would not be a good chair for heavy use. This style of chair is dainty and meant more for display. There is a vintage repair to some cracks on the rear right leg and some vintage repairs to the rear seat stile.
This chair may be picked up in Boylston, MA.

This single door china cabinet features 3 removable wood shelves which have a double set of grooves for the vertical display of fine china. The top shelf is fitted with brass cup hooks underneath, to hang and display fine china cups.
The oak in this cabinet is all solid with the exception of the back panel, which is oak veneer.
The early glass in this cabinet is delightfully wavy. The main body of the cabinet has 4 panes of glass, with another in the door. The 2 front panes of glass are surmounted by oak dividers.
The predominant style of this cabinet is Arts & Crafts, or Mission, with its plain, perpendicular lines. The feet and legs display an Edwardian trend.
The lock on the door is functional and the original key has survived.
There is no maker’s name in evidence. The only markings on the cabinet are some stenciled numbers on the upper rear panel.
Overall dimensions are:
• Height of cabinet is 59 ¼ inches.
• Width of cabinet is 40 inches.
• Width of cabinet top is 43 inches.
• Depth of cabinet is 12 ½ inches.
• Depth of cabinet top is 14 ¼ inches.
• Door dimensions are 45 inches by 19 inches.
• Legs are 11 ½ inches tall.
• Overall Weight is approx. 80 lbs.
Condition: This cabinet is generally very sturdy and in good condition. However, the front bun feet are missing all of the rounded segments, rendering them square. The front right leg facing is missing a segment of the segmented skirt which ornaments the leg just under the turned knob. The top of the cabinet displays some flecks of paint. There is also a light paint splash on the right side facing (see photo). One suspects that the room ceiling was painted with the cabinet in place.
This cabinet may be picked up in Boylston, MA.
We can arrange for delivery within 100 miles.

For sale I have an antique end table. It is about 16 1/4 wide 22 1/4 deep 22 1/2 tall. it has a 3/16 glass inlay top. It is a single drawer table. It could use a light sanding and refinnish in some places but I don't see any broken parts. I believe it was made by Western picture frame company Chicago IL. Atleast that is what is marked on the bottom. Any questions please call Tim 417-440-0862 Thanks for looking. « Less

Unusual, beautiful, antique English hall stand, imported from England and dating back to the late Victorian period C.1890.
This piece just oozes pure English country elegance with its hand carved floral crown, light bamboo accent beading and brass hardware.
There are 3 brass rails across the top with 4 hooks and cathedral style beveled mirrors to the front with carved channeled framework.
Below the central long mirror there is a small shelf which houses a small single drawer with a decorative brass knob and yet more carved channeling to the drawer front.
The bow front has 2 long, slender turned legs terminating in cute bun feet with a central lower shelf.
On each side of the base you will find the original tin drip tray liners combined with an upper brass rail which was, and still is, used as an umbrella stand.
Mounted on each side of the mirrors you will find 2 large decorative brass hooks to hang scarves and hats.
This fabulous piece is constructed from solid oak and has developed a wonderful golden aged patina. There is some wear to the brass and mirrors and some minor wear throughout the rest which, in a piece like this, only adds to its character and charm. Over all it is in solid sturdy condition with age appropriate flaws.
Dimensions: width 43", depth 10 1/2", height 81 1/2".

Elegant British mahogany china cabinet imported from England and dating back to the very early 1900's.
There is a single glass door to the front with curved glass sides and 3 fabric lined shelves inside. The fabric is more of a peach color velvet and seems to be original.
The shape and curves are accented with single lines of lighter colored inlay stringing. On top is mounted a softly arched crown and below there is a single open shelf. The whole thing stands on four elegant tapered legs.
The brass drop handle on the door is not original but is old and suits the piece well. The lock and key are no longer present.
Like any antique furniture, this piece does have it's flaws, however they are only very minor and are as follows. There is minor wear and dings throughout but nothing significant enough to mention. The top on the left side has a slight warp which is hardly noticeable. The glass on the door may have been replaced at some point but it is not obvious and all the glass is in great shape. There is some fading, wear and marks to the interior fabric. All of the above mentioned flaws are only normal in a piece of this age and are reflected in the price.
Over all this very elegant display cabinet is in solid, sturdy condition with minor age appropriate flaws.
Dimensions: width 36", depth 13", total height 67 1/2".

Antique English satinwood pot cupboard imported from England and dating back to C.1900.
You would never know that these kind of small side cabinets were originally used to store the chamber pot in the English Victorian and Edwardian bedroom. Hence the name 'pot cupboard'. Now they make great side tables or plant stands.
This particular one has a very simple arts and crafts style. The single paneled door to the front opens to reveal a storage space with a shelf. The door also boasts the original beautiful decorative brass drop handle.
The satinwood has developed a wonderful patina over time with a smooth satin look and golden glow.
There are some dark marks on top and minor age appropriate wear. There is also a split on one side due to climate change causing movement in the wood. All of this is shown in the pictures and in my opinion only adds to the character and charm of a piece like this. Over all it is in solid sturdy condition and ready to be re-utilized in your home.
Dimensions: width 16", depth 13", height 31".

Very nice antique English mahogany 3 tiered cake stand imported from England and dating back to C.1910.
A piece like this would have graced the table of an English home and would have displayed the home made cakes on offer to accompany the afternoon tea. Today they are being re-purposed to display teacups or pots in a country kitchen or as a small plant stand.
If you do intend to use it as a cake stand it can be folded up to be stored neatly in a cupboard when not in use.
It is in sturdy condition and is constructed from solid mahogany which has developed a wonderful aged patina with wear appropriate to its age and function.
Dimensions: width 11 1/4", depth 10 1/4", height 35", diameter of each tier 9 1/2".

Beautiful set of 4 antique English carved rosewood dining or parlor chairs, imported from England and dating back to C.1860.
Each chair has hand carved scrolls accentuating the elegant shape of the curved back. The sides and front of each chair also feature the hand carved scroll work.
The front cabriole legs boast beautiful hand carved acanthus detail and the back legs are a long curved continuation of the chair back.
The chair seats and backs are upholstered in the original brown leather with studded trim. There are some small tears in 3 of the chair seats but as you can see in the pictures they are not very big. The padding is still comfortable and in good shape so they could most definitely be used as is.
There has been a very old repair to the top back of one chair shown in the pictures. As you can see it has aged well with the chair and only adds to it's character and charm.
These chairs display pure Victorian grandeur with a touch of elegance. They are constructed of solid rosewood which has developed a wonderful aged patina with minor wear and flaws appropriate for their age. They are in solid, sturdy condition.
Dimensions: width 20 1/2", depth 21 1/2", seat height 17", back height 34 1/4".

Rustic carved oak country hall chair, imported from England and dating back to the 17th century.
What a fantastic piece of centuries old English history this chair is. It is constructed from solid oak with wooden peg joints and a hand carved back.
The wear to the stretchers and seat front is magnificent and is something that only centuries of use can develop.
There is a thin drip of stain on the back which we chose not to remove and refinish in order to preserve as much originality of this age old chair. There is wear throughout the piece which is shown in the pictures and only adds to its character and charm. It is in solid sturdy condition with age appropriate flaws.
