For Sale I have a wonderful Arts & Crafts Vase made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Vase stands 5 3/4" tall and is approximately 2 5/8"wide at the base and 1 5/8" ath the outside rim. The Vase displays a very pleasing Teal or light Turqoise with Slate or Country Matt Blue overspray. There are five Greek Key Panels separated by a slightlycurved tail that goes from the bottom t the top rim of the vessel. The piece is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Piece is signed with Rookwood's Impressed Reverse "RP" and Sunburst Logo along with the Roman Numerals "XXIV" for the year of manufacture, 1924. There is also the mold number "2135" impressed under the date. I believe the suffix "-C" mark was Rookwood's way of identifying the size and further research confirms this. Shape numbers, and size letters were impressed below the Roman numeral date marking on Rookwood Pottery pieces. The shape number refers to the outline, or shape of the item. A letter or twin letters frequently followed the shape number. The single or twin letters were used to indicate the size of the shape. Size lettering ranged from A to F, with A being the largest size of the shape, and F the smallest. Twin letters indicated a size of the shape that fell between two other sizes. Not all items were marked with a size letter, indicating only one size for the shape was made. Thus, the letter C following the Mold or Shape number above meant it wasn't the largest or the smallest. It would have been considered a medium size. This will make a wonderful addition to any Matte Pottery Collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. It is simply amazing that this has survived 86 years without a flea nick. « Less

For Auction I have a very beautiful Vase made by the Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The piece is a Low Deco Shaped Flaring Vase and it is hand Painted by the very desirable Rookwood Artist, Louise Abel. The Vase stands 2 13/16" tall and is 6 5/8" in diameter. The Base Glaze is a very soft Mustard Yellow on the outside and a Mottled Mustard for the background on the inside.
The Floral Painting inside reminds me of a Monet Water Color as it is that beautiful. The Burgundy Peony in full Bloom on the bottom rest amongst beautifully detailed Mottled Blue Green Leaves with even more Peonies resting between the leaves. The colors and detail are just outstanding!!
The Vase is considered to in excellent condition as there are no issues to report. The piece is signed with the Rookwood Reverse RP and Sunburst Logo along with the mold number 2256D impressed in the bottom as well as the Roman Numerals XXVI for the year of Manufacture 1926. Those of you who collect Louise Abel's pieces will definitely not be disappointed.
I will add some more information for those of you wanting to learn more about the markings on the bottom of this Vase.
Thus, the letter D following the Mold or Shape number above mean't it wasn't the largest or the smallest. It would have been considered a median size or in the Middle. « Less

A letter or twin letters frequently followed the shape number. The single or twin letters were used to indicate the size of the shape. This will make a wonderful addition to any Matte Art Pottery Collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. For Auction I have a Very Nice Console Bowl made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is the highly sought after "Bushberry" Pattern. The Console Bowl measures 2 7/8" tall and is approximately 13 1/4" wide outside handle measurement. The rim measurements are 11 3/8" wide and 8 3/8" deep.
The Pattern Displays very Detailed Embossed Maple Shaped Leaves and Clusters of Bushberries Growing from a Heavy Stem. The Console Bowl has Branch style handles with a Bark texture. The background of the Vase resembles that of Tree Bark with a Horizontal Grain thus giving this Vase that Life Like appearance. The Background Glaze is a Terra Cotta or soft Orangey/Brown with wonderful deep sage greens applied to the embossed leaves and in the background.
The Console Bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no, cracks, chips, nicks, or dings. The Bowl is signed on the bottom with Roseville U.S.A. in Raised Relief along with the mold number 414-10". There is the number 9 written in a Black Grease Pencil and more than likely was the finishers mark. This is the Larger Rarer Size in this Roseville Line. For sale I have a lovely Planter made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is known as Carnelian I. It is done in the most desirable Robin's Egg More »
For sale I have a lovely Planter made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is known as Carnelian I. It is done in the most desirable Robin's Egg Blue with a Darker Slate or Country Blue Drip Glaze. The Vase measures 10 1/4" wide, outside handles measurement. The Planter stands 3 5/8" tall and is 5 5/8" deep. This is a Footed and Handled Oval Shaped Planter or Bowl.
The Planter displays a wonderful drip of a Darker Blue Glaze applied over the softer Blue. This makes it appear as if the Planter is overflowing with this Darker color. The inside of the piece is also done in the Darker Blue Glaze. The Handles are just wonderful. They are applied at each end of the Planter. They are triangular shaped and also have this two tone affect as well. This piece has an Art Deco appeal but will also work well in a Mission setting.
The Planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. It is signed with the Early Roseville Ink Stamp "RV" mark as well as the letters BGP written over the numbers 225 in Pencil. I would tend to think that the BGP was the seller's code for his cost and more than likely the 225 was the Retail Price of $2.25 for this. This was a fair amount of money in the early 1900's. This is known as shape number 162-8 in the Roseville Catalog pages.
This piece would be a lovely addition to one's Roseville Carnelian I Collection. The Glaze Color works wonderful with Country Decor. This Lovely piece of Roseville was made Circa 1910-1915. It is absolutely amazing that it has survived 100 years and it is in such great condition. « Less

For Sale I have a piece of one of my most favorite lines made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is Carnelian II and it is considered a Handled More »
For Sale I have a piece of one of my most favorite lines made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is Carnelian II and it is considered a Handled Bowl Shape. The Glaze is the most desirable Bubble Gum Cotton Candy Drip Glaze. The bowl stands 3" tall and is 10 1/2" outside handles measurement. The Blending of the Glaze on this piece is simply outstanding. The Blue Green Drip Over the frothy Matte Deep Mauve background glaze is just delicious!! The inside of the bowl is just as vibrant as the outside. The Glaze around the bowl is Thick and Gloppy. This is just the way we Carnelian II Collectors love this glaze to be. I have 2 Reference Books on Roseville Pottery and neither books shows this mold number. The closest I can come is mold number 161-7 which shows this to be a 7 1/2" bowl in this exact same shape. My guess would be it is number 161-10" as it is a size larger and it is the same exact shape as the cataloged smaller bowl. The bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks, or dings. The piece is unsigned and probably had a paper sticker that fell off over time. These Carnelian II pieces seem to have a denser or harder clay than other Roseville Pots. The Bottom of this Bowl reminded me of Fulper Art Pottery bottoms. This is an exceptional Carnelian II Handled Bowl and you Collectors out there will surely welcome this one into your collection. This piece was made Circa 1915-1931. I would consider this somewhat of a "Rare" find as to not find documentation in 2 of the Most Respected Books in the Trade. Roseville in All Its Splendor by Bomm and Introducing Roseville Pottery by Mark Bassett is something to speak about. « Less
