For Sale I have a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The item is called a "Chocolate Pot" as it is exactly that. The Pot is done in the much sought after Matte Blue Glaze. The Chocolate Pot is rather large as it stands 10 7/8" tall to the top of the lid. The pot is 6 1/4" in diameter from the outside Spout to the outside handle measurement. The piece displays a unique Pitcher Shape but it has a lid. This is what makes it a Chocolate Pot. The Pot displays a rich deep matte Blue Glaze. There are Embossed Tree like forms on each side of the pitcher. The Trunks connect at the bottom and form a U Shape with each Trunk with their leaves rising up over and almost toughing each other. The Handle is very unique. It has a Buttress appearance and is narrow at the bottom and wider at the top for your hand to fit in comfortably. The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks chips or dings. There is some pitting in the glaze throughout the piece. This is somewhat common with Hampshire Pottery matte blue glazes. The cap appears to be in equally as good condition. There might have been a professional restoration to the cap as the glaze color along the edges appears to be a little bit lighter than the very top. There is a very tiny nick on the inside male extension. This cannot be seen when displayed. The piece is signed with Hampshire Pottery impressed script lettering mark along with the letter "M" in a Circle. There is also the Mold or Shape number "81" on the bottom. This is done in raised relief and was part of the mold. The M in a Circle mark dates this piece to have been made circa 1904-1914. This marked was used during Cadmon Robertson's tenure with Hampshire Pottery. He developed over 900 glazes while employed there. He used this mark to Honor his wife, Emoretta. She was the daughter of the Founder James Scollay Taft who started Hampshire Pottery in 1871. This is a not so commonly found item from Hampshire Pottery in any color. In my research I found 1 of these sold several years ago at a David Rago Auction. He had it listed as a Tankard. He did not realize that this piece originally had a lid. He sold that one in the same exact color for $500 without the lid. « Less

For sale I have a wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by The Hampshire Pottery Company of Keene, NH. The item is called a "Tankard" or "Stein" and it is done in Hampshire More »
For sale I have a wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by The Hampshire Pottery Company of Keene, NH. The item is called a "Tankard" or "Stein" and it is done in Hampshire Pottery's most famous Matte Cucumber Green Mottled Glaze. The Tankard stands 5 7/8" tall and is 4 3/4" wide outside handle measurement. The piece is 3 5/8" in diameter at the foot.
The Stein displays one of the Richest Matt Cucumber Glazes I have seen in quite awhile. It has a Grueby like frothiness to the Glaze. The Style of the Tankard is very much Arts and Crafts. You have a Raised Ring at the top in which the Handle swings out from and attached to the lower body. The handle where it attaches to the lower body has a Buttress appearance and give this piece the added strength in this area that it needs. The lower part of the Tankard also has raised concentric rising from the bottom. when you turn the piece over you can see how thick and Gloopy this glaze really is.
The Stein is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. In fact this is one of the cleanest Steins I have ever owned. It appears to have never been used and spent most of its life in a Cabinet. The piece is signed on the Bottom with the Impressed Block Letter "Hampshire" mark in a straight line. I firmly believe this to be a later mark when George Morton from Grueby Pottery owned it. The M in a circle mark can be dated 1904-1914. The JST Keene Mark from 1892-1903 which is the earliest of the Hampshire marks. The pottery closed after Cadmon Robertson's death and reopened again in 1916. They produced Art Pottery until 1917 and then they focused on Dinnerware for Hotels and Restaurants along with Souvenirs until 1923 when Hampshire Pottery Closed permanently.
Hampshire started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte Pottery collection of Art Pottery and would look great on that Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase. « Less

For sale I have a Lovely Petite piece of Art Pottery made by Marblehead Pottery of Marblehead, Mass. The Piece of Art Pottery is a Diminutive Size and it is Known as a Diminutive Squat Vase. The Squat Vase is considered a Cabinet piece. The Vase stands 1 3/4" tall and is 3 1/2" in diameter.
The Vase displays that Rich Matte Speckled Gray Glaze that is not all so commonly found. I believe that the speckling is caused by the Red Clay peeking through the Matte Gray outer Glaze. This glaze is also called "Monochrome" by the Marblehead Collector community. The inside of the pot has a beautiful Robins Egg Blue waterproofing high Gloss interior Glaze. When you hold this little Pot in your Hand you can feel the Quality and strength of the piece.
The Vase is considered to be excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The only issue is some rust stains on the inside of the Vase. This adorable little piece was used as it was intended for. This cannot be seen when display. It can only be seen when you are looking inside the pot. The Vase is signed on the bottom with Marblehead's Impressed Ship Logo along with the Capital Letters "M" and "P" for Marblehead Pottery. Those of you who collect Marblehead Pottery and want a Lovely example do not let this one Pass you by. This would look just wonderful in that Stickley, Mission Style Arts and Crafts Bookcase. This piece was made Circa 1904-1915.
Marblehead Pottery was established in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. Hall as a Studio Art Pottery in Marblehead, Massachusetts using the art and technique of ceramics manufacturing and decorating as a rehabilitation and therapeutic aid to local sanitarium patients at Hall's Devereux Mansion Sanitarium. Marblehead Pottery stopped producing Art Pottery in 1936. Marblehead Pottery was a small Pottery Company never employing more than 6 workers. Their Pottery is considered somewhat scare as compared to their Contemporaries of the day « Less

For Sale I have a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by Marblehead Pottery of Marblehead, Mass. This Piece of Art Pottery is a known as a "Bud or Stick" Vase. The Vase is considered to be a Cabinet Size Vase. The piece stands 6" tall and is 2 7/8" in diameter at the foot and the top opening is 1 1/8" outside diameter. The Vase displays a rich yet subtle matte Lilac or Lavender purple glaze. The interior of the vase shows a speckled white waterproofing glaze. The Vase is not perfectly straight which shows clearly this Vase was what we Pottery Collector's call "Hand Thrown" as this is not a Mold made piece. When you hold this Vase in your Hands you can feel the Quality and Strength of the piece. The Vase is considered to be excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Vase is signed on the bottom with Marblehead's Impressed Ship Logo along with the Capital Letters "M" and "P" for Marblehead Pottery on each side of the ship. This logo is somewhat obscured by the Glaze but I was able to capture a picture of it under bright light to show you. Those of you who collect Marblehead Pottery and want a nice example of this Glaze do not let this one Pass you by. In my research I noticed that most of these Vases can be found quite easily in Blue, Gray and Brown. I have seen few examples of Yellow and Green. I rarely see examples in this Lilac Purple Glaze. This would look just outstanding in or on that Stickley, Mission Style Arts and Crafts Bookcase. This piece was made Circa 1904-1915. Marblehead Pottery was established in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. For Sale I have a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by Marblehead Pottery of Marblehead, Mass. This Piece of Art Pottery is a known as a "Swollen Form" Vase. The Vase is considered to rather large for a Marblehead Pottery Vase. The Vase stands 7" tall and is 3 7/8" in diameter at the shoulder or swollen area. The Vase displays a Rich Matte Speckled Gray Glaze that is not as commonly found as the Blue. I believe that the speckling is caused by the Red Clay peeking through the Matte Gray outer Glaze. The inside of the Vase has a beautiful Robins Egg Blue waterproofing high Gloss interior Glaze. When you hold this Vase in your Hands you can feel the Quality and Strength of the piece. When you put your fingers inside you can feel the grooves that were formed by Fingers as this was "Hand Thrown" as we call it. This is not a Mold made piece. The Vase is considered to be excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is one spot on the vase which shows a small piece of what appears to be spec of white sand in the glaze. It is a very small inclusion and only mentioned for accuracy. The Vase is signed on the bottom with Marblehead's Impressed Ship Logo along with the Capital Letters "M" and "P" for Marblehead Pottery on each side of the ship but it is obscured by the Glaze. Those of you whom collect Marblehead Pottery and want a an excellent example do not let this one Pass you by. In my research I noticed that most of the Vases that were 7" to 9" tall were all decorated. I could find very few examples in their Speckled Matt Glazes that were not. I found lots of 3" to 5 1/2" sizes but very few of the 7" Size. This leads me to believe that this size is somewhat Rare. This would look just outstanding in or on that Stickley, Mission Style Arts and Crafts Bookcase. This piece was made Circa 1904-1915. Marblehead Pottery was established in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. For Sale I have a Lovely piece of Art Pottery made by Peters & Reed of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern line is called "Landsun" and it is done in their ever popular Blue with Cream Glaze. The Form is what I would call a Ferner or Planter. The Ferner stands 2" tall and is 6 1/8" in diameter at the Shoulder or roll in the piece. The Glaze is a very pleasing one as it display a very nice Semi Matte Robins Egg Blue Glaze with very nice Cream Colored Mottling. The Cream Glaze is applied over Peters and Reed's Choice of Red Clay. This give this line that added density for this pattern line. Peters and Reed Pottery was made extremely well as the piece has good weight. When you hold this in your hand you can feel the strength and density in the piece. The Ferner or Planter is considered to be in excellent condition. There are no cracks. nicks, chips or dings. This is truly an excellent example both in form and in Glaze Combination. The piece is unsigned but this Pattern has been a Favorite among Arts and Crafts Pottery Collectors for Years. You can see the Red Clay that was used on the base of the foot. Peters and Reed were one of the few Ohio Potters that used Red Clay. This is one of our ways of Identifying the Manufacturer of unsigned pieces. The other in this case is the Glaze. There is no doubt that this is Peters and Reed Pottery in their famous Landsun Glaze. Peters and Reed Pottery (1897-1919) was bought out in 1920 and the name was changed to Zane Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. They still produce some of the same styles as Peters and Reed. They changed from Red Clay to White Clay Products in 1926. This product display the Red Clay underneath, thus the provenance. This Vase would look great in any Mission, Arts and Crafts, Country or Shaker decor. The piece is made, Circa 1921-1925. « Less

For sale I have a lovely piece of pottery made by the Peters and Reed Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a Hanging Planter and it is the ever poular Moss Aztec Line. More »
For sale I have a lovely piece of pottery made by the Peters and Reed Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a Hanging Planter and it is the ever poular Moss Aztec Line. The Planter measures 4 7/8" tall and is 5 5/8" in diameter. The inside opening measures 5 1/8" wide.
The Planter depicts a mock Wicker Basket pattern and there are even simulated nails in the fine details as if holding the basket together. The Beehive shaped Basket has three main straps for a solid construction look with the top main collar. This is such a nice job on the details that the Planter would indeed enhance a Basket Collection as well. There is a waterproofing glaze on the interior so you can actually use it. The piece is glazed in the Moss Aztec technique which is a Terra Cotta with a Verde Accent applied over it. It resembles Moss that grows in shady areas as it is in the crevices or lower relief areas of the design. There are three factory drill holes for the lucky winner to tie Jute to hang as it was intended for.
The piece is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The Planter has been used by its previous owner and could use a good cleaning by the new owner as there are some calcium deposits on the upper inside rim. This does not detract from the piece when it is displayed and again could be soaked out by its new owner. The piece is unsigned however guaranteed to be Vintage Peters and Reed from the Moss Aztec line.
Peters and Reed Pottery (1897-1919) was bought out in 1920 and the name was changed to Zane Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. They still produce some of the same styles as Peters and Reed. They changed from Red Clay to White Clay Products in 1926.Frank Ferrel designed this Line for Peters and Reed. He was employed there from 1906-1918. In 1918 he left Peters and Reed to work for Roseville Pottery.
The piece was made Circa 1910-1915. « Less

For sale I have a lovely piece of Pottery made by the Peters and Reed Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is known as a Low or Mission Bowl and is done in the ever popular Matt Green Glaze. The Bowl stands 2 1/4" tall and is 8 1/8" wide.
The Low Bowl or Planter is an excellent example of Peters and Reed Matte Green Glaze. The Bowl has speckling throughout with it being heavier at the top and inside the piece. The underside of the Bowl graduates to a lighter Green similar to the Green that is on their Moss Aztec Line. There is speckling here as well although, it is lighter and smaller speckles. The speckling on this piece is very Similar to Marblehead's Speckled Matt Green Glaze.
The Bowl is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no chips, nicks, cracks or dings. There are a couple of very minute pin pops in the Glaze which occurred during the making. There is also one Glaze miss on the bottom foot collar but cannot be seen when displayed because the bowl rests on it. The piece is unsigned but you can see the Red Clay on the bottom of the piece where the stilts were. Peters and Reed were one of the few Ohio Potters that used Red Clay. Peters and Reed pieces were also substantially heavier than the other Potters of the Area. This and the Red Clay are a few of the ways of Identifying this Wonderfully made Mission Bowl.
For Sale I have a lovely piece of art pottery made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The shape is a Vase and is a very nice example of Arts and Crafts Pottery. The Vase measures 6 5/16" tall and is 2 13/16" wide at the base. The rim measures 1 7/8" wide outside diameter. The Vase has a slender tapered form and is adorned at the collar with embossed Lily Bells, Vines and Leaves in a scrolling type fashion. The glaze is a warm Honey Caramel wash that resembles a Flambe Glaze accented on the main body of the piece. This will surely be a favorite for the collector of Rookwood Pottery. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips, or dings. There are a few very small pin holes in the glaze and are insignificant to the Value.
