Original incredibly detailed Victorian (c1870) cast iron stand. Dish top with disc of classic woman in center and detail throughout the casting until the edge. Dish top,14 1/2'' , is supported by a tripod griffin base and claw feet. Three heads which probably had brass chain connecting to the top as t are small holes, would have been a classic swag. Stands approx 29'' high, properly cleaned or years of abuse and repainted in cream white color. From my own personal victorian iron collection in my home! Beautiful figured mahogany veneers on this 2 drawer stand. Each drawer has fine hand cut dovetails with original sandwich glass knobs. One knob has large chunk from face and another has chip to back section. Top has bookmatched mahogany flame veneer while drawer faces and slides and a crotch mahogany. Each drawer is flanked by a tapered and ring turned post in the style of Rufus Porter Boston MA. Stand is supported by a turned post and solid mahogany scroll legs. American, MA or NY c1830. Demilune refers to the top of a piece of furniture (usually a small table or commode) shaped like a semi-circle or a half-moon (the words demi lune translate to half-moon in French). Probably developed in France, the style came into widespread use the 1750s, and has remained popular ever since, though it''s especially characteristic of Louis XVI style as this very nice table made solid fruit wood for the top part and probably pine for the legs. The top was nailed to the apron. This very nice demilune table was made in Chesapeake Bay area in late 1800''s. Very good condition! The flat side allowed this piece to be kept against a wall, to be moved into a room when needed... a typical practice in 18th-century rooms.
