Exquisite design of tiny granulation and openwork, all set with old minecut diamonds and centered with an emerald, with lovely brilliance. The stones are set in 18k gold and the rest of the ring is platinum. The bezel is rounded so that it folds beautifully around the finger, leading to very finely engraved shoulders that resemble the outspread wings of a butterfly. Typical of Edwardian and Belle Epoque jewellery, the workmanship and design of this ring is very fine and delicate. The inside of the shank is hallmarked 18K PLAT. Condition: neither the naked eye, nor even regular magnification show any faults, but the vastly enlarged ''photos show a tiny restoration (see ''photos). Otherwise, good condition. Antique Victorian Art Nouveau ring. Opal set in silver and gold. Made circa 1890-1910. US size 8. Weighs approx 4 grams. Length of top of ring just under 1 inch. Classic Art Nouveau: an elegant, elongated ring set with an opal that glistens blues and greens, with a lot of fire and light. It is set in a silver mount, consisting of engraved flowers and foliage, joined by 3 tendrils on either side to the shank, which is 14k gold. The mount seems to wrap itself over the stone in a unique manner, without regular claws. (the top of the foliage instead of claws). Hallmarked 14K inside the shank. Condition appears good. Enlarged ''photos show some darkening on the inside of the shank, which could indicate later work, but we are not aware of any having been done. The larger, bottom bead is contained in a gold flower-form, ; the upper, smaller bead has simpler gold separators. Amber is dark brown and enticing. Antique Georgian bracelet made of 15 carat rose gold and set with 4 diamonds and an emerald. Most likely made in England, circa 1800-1830''s. Diameter of central flower is 21-22mm. Links of bracelet are 6mm wide. Like most Georgian jewellery, the bracelet is very light - weighs 10.5 grams. 7 inches long, not including the ''tongue'' of the clasp. The sides of the bracelet are made of marvellous links in the form of flowers in bud, connected by with horse-shoe shaped backs, allowing for movement and flexibility. These horse-shoe links are gradated in size, with the smallest towards the clasp. The end link has a little round loop, presumably where a safety chain once existed. The beauty of the back of this bracelet extends particularly to the central medallion, which is quite lovely from the back as well. From the front, the center is a flower, made up of many fine, gold petals, stamen radiating outwards from the middle with little globes at their ends and in the center a green stone surrounded by 4 diamonds. The diamonds definately test as diamonds (not immitation). The central stone was sold to me as emerald and it tests as such on the Presidium gemtester, but I am not entirely sure whether this is accurate. Either way, it is a genuine stone and a very lovely bright green colour. Like most Georgian jewellery, there are no hallmarks. Good condition. Antique 22carat gold loop earrings with exquisite fine geometric ornament. Made Tamil Nadu, India, 19th - early 20th century. Length of earring is 7/8 inches. Width is a little over 1/2 inch. Weight is 7.4grams. Beautiful loops with filigree borders. One side of earring is adorned with sculptural geometric shapes - pyramids, globes and granulation of various sizes. Two sides have tiny extentions -with minute detail, scarcely visible to the naked eye. One of them serves as the terminal of a tiny screw. WHen undone, the earring opens. (see ''photos). Good condition. Good antique Mughal / Indian jewellery combines the wonders of ages gone by with amazing design and delicacy executed by outstanding craftsmen and is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain as it grows in appreciation throughout the world. In her book on Indian earrings, page 231, Waltraud Ganguly explains that the design is a snake, symbol of eternity (with it''s tail in it''s mouth). These earrings, called Ananthamudichu are ''practically extinct'' today. ''They need only one hinge; the screw-head is a part of the geometrical decoration and is not detectable as such when closed.'' She also tells us that the Victoria and Albert Museum, London owns a pair of Ananthamudichu, donated in 1851 to the exhibition of that year. Extraordinary pair of antique 22 carat gold, gemset and enamel earrings or ear ornaments, called Thuria. Originate in Upper Assam, India, and worn by the upper classes in More »
Extraordinary pair of antique 22 carat gold, gemset and enamel earrings or ear ornaments, called Thuria. Originate in Upper Assam, India, and worn by the upper classes in previous centuries. Measure 1 1/4 inches long. Weigh 16.4grams. A widening tube-shape attached to a skirt in floral and foliate form. The lower area, nearest the skirt is decorated with beautiful blue and green enamel work, known as minakari / meena, which is becoming very rare and difficult to find in antique pieces of jewellery. Tiny golden patterns of leaves further refine the enamel work. The underside, which would be the most visible side of the ear ornament, is set with red stones in the form of a flower. Each stone surrounded by a wall of 22k gold. The stones test as genuine (not glass or synthetic), pink topaz or spinels. Above the enamel work the broadening cylinder is similarly set with pink stones enclosed in gold, in a geometric pattern. The opposite side has a star combination of enamel and gems. Here some of the enamel is missing, as shown in the ''photos. One leaf of the ''skirt'' has also lost half of it''s enamel, but the others are perfect. The colours and design are highly reminiscent of a peacock - deep green, blue, pink and gold. These amazing ornaments would be worn in the hugely distended holes in the lobes of women''s ears 100 years ago, or more. Besides the missing enamel, mentioned above, the earrings are in very good condition. Good antique Mughal / Indian jewellery combines the wonders of ages gone by with amazing design and delicacy executed by outstanding craftsmen and is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain as it grows in appreciation throughout the world. In her book on Indian earrings, page 60-61, Waltraud Ganguly explains that the design symbolises a lotus with a heavy stem and tells us that the Victoria and Albert Museum, London owns two pairs of thuria, dated before 1880. Antique 22 carat gold necklace. Made circa 1890 - 1900 in southern India and reset on a black cord backing for comfort and ease of wearing. Knot on rope slides, so the necklace will fit any size neck. Necklace consists of 37 individual components, each measuring approx 3/8inch long. They consist of a large, round globe with point at the end. On the opposite side is a flat disk, cut out in the form of a plant, possibly a flowering jasmine, with fine detail. The black rope adds to the drama of the gold and the necklace looks wonderful when worn. The stark black and gold contrasts nicely with the delicacy of the detail and looks great whether worn by day with jeans or by night as evening wear. Good condition. Good antique Mughal / Indian jewellery combines the wonders of ages gone by with amazing design and delicacy executed by outstanding craftsmen and is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain as it grows in appreciation throughout the world. A necklace, also from Tamil Nadu, with many similar elements is shown on page 98 of Usha R Bala Krishnan and Meera Sushil Kumar''s book, Dance of the Peacock.
