This is a thinly potted tea cup depicting the Buddhist's eight auspicious signs which is found on the sole of Buddha's feet. They are the mystic knot, fish, wheel of the law, lotus, canopy, unbrella, conch shell and the jar. The tea cup stand on a short recessed foot-rim and into a U-shaped body and then with an everted mouth rim. On the cover of the tea cup, it is surrounded by the ruyi motive all around and four emblem of the auspicious signs. At the body of the tea cup, the mouth rim is also surrounded by the rui motifs. At the base towards the foot, it is surrounded by a layer of lappets of lime green and pink colour. At the base of the footrim, it has the four character mark of Daoguang reign. Given the lime green colour at the lappet and the turquiose colour at the ruyi, this could be a period piece from the Daoguang reign. I believe this is a mingyao piece. Cir. Mid 19th century.
The tea cup is in good condition. No repair, chip, crack, restoration or hairline. Minor manufacturing imperfection and light wear to the enamel.
The diameter at the mouth rim is 11.2cm and the height is the height is 7.4cm.

This is a very beautiful and finely potted Qing dynasty famille noir mille fleurs (Thousand Flowers) plate. It is painted very densely with shades of enameled pink, yellow, More »
This is a very beautiful and finely potted Qing dynasty famille noir mille fleurs (Thousand Flowers) plate. It is painted very densely with shades of enameled pink, yellow, blue, brown, white and green with multitude of flowers and plants. It includes peonies, lotus, hydrangea, chrysanthemum, narcissus, daisies, lily, hibiscus, iris and several other flowers covering the entire plate in black background, with the foliage and gold tendrils binding all the flowers together. While it is common to find the mille fleurs in famille rose colour in the shape of bowl, plate and vase, such elegantly painted plate in famille noir is a bit harder to come by and thus it is quite rare. The plate is dated to the Guangxu period (1875-1908), with a iron red six characters reign mark. This plate is likely to be from the early 20th century of his reign.
Aside from minor manufacturing flaw, there are some minute glaze fritting on the black colour of the glaze. It does not in anyway affect the aesthetic of the plate at all. It blends in very well into the colour scheme and the glaze fritting is not obvious at all. Glaze fritting and wear are a common sign of ageing for antiques. Other than that, it is in good condition, no reapir, restoration, chip, crack or hairline.
The measurement of the “famille noir mille fleur†plate: Diameter is 25.8cm or about 10".
