Pair of fiddle pattern mustard or salt spoons, sterling silver and hallmarked for Exeter, 1825. Maker is George Turner. Exeter is a rare mark, as the assay office there closed in 1882. Spoons are each 10.2 cm long. Bowls are 2.8 cm wide. One spoon has a small dents in the bowl, other is perfect. (Dents like this can be straightened easily by a silversmith if they worry you). Some little salts marks to rear of one spoon, would clean off. Condition is very good, just normal scuffing and wear. TSW: 20.04g.   « Less

English cut glass toiletry jar of good quality with hinged sterling silver lid and neck ring - possibly for smelling salts or face creams etc, with an Edwardian hallmark for Chester 1906. Maker is J & R G. for Joseph and Richard Griffin. Jar measures 88 mm high and 50 mm diameter (3.1/2 inches by 2 inches). It has the initials C S in gothic-style script on the lid. Please excuse all the reflections in the silver! Condition: Externally, the silver and crystal are in excellent condition. Internally, there are a few little nicks in the glass inside the silver neck rings, and a little clouding to the inside bottom of the jar (may clean out with CLR or similar). It probably once had an inner stopper in the neck, but this is absent now. Lid snaps shut firmly. Elegant item for display on a dressing table.   « Less

Large sterling silver open salt on lion's paw feet with embossed design of roses and lion masks. Gadrooned edge. English Victorian hallmarks for London. The date letter is very rubbed, but possibly an r. The maker 's mark in a quatrefoil appears to be for David and Charles Houle. The monarch's head is present, so 1872 looks to be likely. Very faint initials in the cartouche at the front, but can't read them. The salt weighs 127g. The glass liner is a later addition, but does the job well. Measurements: 49 mm high by 88 mm diameter. Very good to excellent condition, a beautiful item.   « Less
