An Early British Sailor''s Woolwork Picture of the Royal Yacht, HMY Victoria and Albert II, Circa 1855-70 Dimensions: 27 inches x 20 inches HMY Victoria and Albert II (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) HMY Victoria and Albert, a 360 foot steamer launched 16 January 1855, was a Royal Yacht of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom until 1900, owned and operated by the Royal Navy. She displaced 2,470 tons, and could make 15 knots on her paddles. There were 240 crew. Victoria and Albert II was scrapped in about 1904. A Large Ottoman Silkwork Textile Botanical Embroidery, Circa 1880. Dimensions: ;102 1/2 inches x 72 inches wide. ;Fringe adds an extra 2 inches on each side. More »
A Large Ottoman Silkwork Textile Botanical Embroidery, Circa 1880. Dimensions: ;102 1/2 inches x 72 inches wide. ;Fringe adds an extra 2 inches on each side. Conservation of Islamic Textile with Gold Embroidery on a beige satin silk background ; ;The textile is heavily embroidered with gold threads on a ;silk satin weave background. The weft was of a stronger cotton thread which was loose over much of the textile. The entire textile was lined with coarser cotton lining and attached to the embroidered areas by cotton thread. ; ; ; ; ; ;The need for reinforcement was made to stop any further loss and to be able to display the work; the weight of the gold embroidery presented a problem and to stabilize the textile, a scientific conservation method commonly used in museums was done. The entire ;silk background was supported with a thin synthetic fabric, adhered with a thermoplastic via very low heat. The process is entirely reversible and stabilizes the textile without any visible change to the original, and some older attempts at stabilizing with cotton threads were removed. The fragile and brittle fibers were then reinforced by a second such lining so the piece could be safely displayed. Strips of strong linen were then fixed vertically, along with a strong cotton lining, to support it for display, and the original silk lining reaffixed on the back. ; ; ; « Less

Antique, Art Nouveau / Art Deco ladie''s bag / purse. Gilded, Sterling silver set with genuine sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls and other gemstones. Made in Germany, late 19th to early 20th century. Approximately 9 inches accross widest part. Weighs approx 265grams. Cloth bag with flowers, fruit and foliage in pretty shades of pinks and quiet greens on a golden/beige ground. The inside has a peach silk lining in excellent condition with pockets on either side for holding compact or comb. The frame of the bag is exceptional: A central basket of fruit with doves on either side in an octagonal reserve. On either side is a gorgeous nude half figure of a woman, her body tapering to a cornucopia. Surrounded by garlands of flowers, set with gemstones. We tested the stones with a modern, electronic tester and they are a mixture of various genuine stones - many sapphires, rubies, emeralds and also other stones such as topaz etc. The reverse side of the bag has the identical design, but is not set with stones. The bag is opened / closed with a clasp (push it in) that is set with a very large cabochon sapphire. THe terminals at either end also each contain a large cabochon sapphire. One side of the frame has engraved STERLING SILVER GERMANY. Despite some signs of age, the bag and frame are in good condition. I did not find any missing stones. Antique silver Art Nouveau chatelaine coin or key purse. Made during the Art Nouveau, late Victorian era - circa 1880 - 1910. Measurements: 2 1/2 inches accross widest part More »
Antique silver Art Nouveau chatelaine coin or key purse. Made during the Art Nouveau, late Victorian era - circa 1880 - 1910. Measurements: 2 1/2 inches accross widest part of frame. Weighs 23.1 grams. Made if silver knitted chain mail - flexible and soft while sturdy and secure. The bottom has a number of suspended silver beads, some missing. The frame is fabulous: an elongated series of sensuous curves with raised oak-leaf foliage on either side and a bird with a huge wingspan forming the top. The bird, with open mouth prepares to swoop down and land. The exact same scenario is depicted on the reverse, but is partially hidden due to a loop from which the purse could be hung (no pockets in your dress). A simple double globed clasp opens and closes the purse securely. Hallmarks on the clasp - not entirely legibile, but certainly include a bird/duck in a lozenge. Besides the couple of missing beads on the bottom, there is no damage.Normally, some of the chain has unravelled or at least become seperated from the frame, but in this case, all parts are intact, as can be seen in the ''photos. Nothing stretched, split or un-attached. Status: For Sale Reference#: 4017 Condition: good Year: 1899 Title: ANTIQUE NOUVEAU SILVER COIN KEY PURSE FAB BIRD FRAME « Less

Antique very fine mesh evening handbag or purse with enamelled frame. Made in Germany during the flapper era, 1920-30''s. 6 3/4inches from frame to bottom of fringes and 4 7/8 inches accross the frame. Very fine quality metal mesh with outmost delicacy and flexibility. Colours are superb - ranging from turquoise through greens to beautiful yellows and reds. Roses and foliage like an Impressionist painting. Fringes of metal mesh on the bottom, cut to echo the Art Deco style frame and clasp. Pattern identical front and back. Within is original silk lining, untorn, with a few age marks. Frame is gilt metal with marvellous blue and pale yellow, classic Art Deco, enamelled pattern, highlighted in gold. Stepped, reversible with positives echoing negatives, symbolic of the skyskrapers that began dotting horizons during that period. The plain gilt metal clasp has the same theme. Original, attractive, sturdy chain. Frame has engraved MADE IN GERMANY mark. Very good condition. Antique American handmade, handstitched quilt Rose of Sharon / Sharon Rose. Believed to date to 1820''s. Measures 72X72inches. Very early cotton quilt. Largely white ground with pink, red and green floral buds and leaves radiating from a bullseye patterned center. We are not quilt experts, but the 95 year old lady from whose collection this quilt was bought said that the pattern is called ''Rosa Sheraton'', which was later corrected to Rose of SHaron, and that it was at leat 180 years old. The white ground is even more fascinating than the coloured pattern. Done in very tight stitching, with a running feather vine pattern. we found a description of this kind of Whitework in the book America''s Glorious Quilts by Dennis Duke and Deborah Harding:...The designs were achieved entirely by intricate patterns of quilting stitches. These masterpieces were attempted only by the most proficient needleworkers, who combined superior stitching with an ability to plan an often exquisitely detailed composition. By making very small stitches and placing them close together, they caused the unstitched areas to puff up to become the design elements surrounded by outline or stipple quilting. ..... Overall condition is very good. Some of the pink rings have moth holes: one quite bad ring, a few quite minor. THe worst example is clearly shown in the ''photos. THe majority are absolutely fine, as is the rest of the quilt. (why were those pink rings so tasty?).
