Circa 1850 Chinese Export Blue Canton Pair of Rare Candlesticks. Pairs of Blue Canton Candlesticks are a Rarity. This Pair measures 7 1/2" in height. The base measures a tad over 3 1/2" in diameter. Both of these candlesticks have a chip on the top rim. One of the candlesticks has two old staple repairs 6" from the base,1 1/2" apart and located at the rain and cloud border on both sides. Circa 1840 Chinese Export Rose Medallion Marmite in Excellent Condition And Very Good Quality. Recently purchased out of a Main Line Philadelphia Estate. This is one of many great small items in all different and rare small items. Most if not all are very interesting and unusual. This marmite measures over 4 1/4" in height and almost 4 1/4" from handle to spout. Very Nice Quality. No chips, cracks or restoration. Decorated panels with birds and colorful butterflies. Nice gilded finial with beautiful mandarin scenes on the cover and also on the corresponding sides of the bottom panel between handle and spout. Excellent Condition and Great Quality. Circa 1840 Chinese Export Rose Medallion Marmite, measuring 2 1/2" in height to top of rim where the cover sets and 3 1/4" to the top of the finial. Measures 4" from top back of handle to spout of the marmite. Marmites are very Rare. They were designed to hold broth. They are straight sided pitchers with lids and when found are decorated in blue canton or rose medallion like this one. Most are about 3" in height, like this one is.   « Less

In the book "CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN" by Herbert Schiffer and Published by Peter and Nancy Schiffer, "SCHIFFER PUBLISHING LTD." On page 131, Example #360 is listed. Herbert Schiffer writes "Rose Medallion is prodigal in the enormous variety of shapes, but in 20 years of business and even longer Museum Viewing, we have only seen this one example". I do not recall in my years of collecting rose medallion, I have ever seen one either. I have had them in blue Canton and many 18th century pieces. Recently we acquired a a large collection of Rose Medallion in Philadelphia and there were three of these that were part of that collection. We are listing all three separately and offering them for sale. It is not known why this should be so Rare. rose Medallion is Prodigal as the enormous variety of shapes but in my 20 years of collecting, buying and selling, this one and the other two are the only examples I have ever seen. The inside of egg cup has a border on top,only which is quite different in rose canton and medallion. Middle decoration is famille rose and greenery,as is the decoration at the bottom. Circa 1875 Chinese Export Rose Medallion Barrel Shape dressing jar with cover. This is one of several forms in rose medallion and rose mandarin as well as rose canton that were made and remain very popular for collectors. There are usually five different sizes in these different forms. This barrel form is 2 3/4" to the top of the cover. The diameter at the top of the barrel is 2 3/8". Nice alternating panels on the bottom with people and roses.   « Less

Circa 1850 Chinese Export Mustard Jar unfortunately with out the top. These small items like the mustard jar are always hard to find, especially with a cover. This is a nice item with good quality that is still usable and also not a form and size that you often can find. Measures 2 1/2 in height. Very Good Quality. Gold in the hair. A bird and a butterfly with a rose and greenery in one panel and other scene is a group of mandarin ladies in a court scene.   « Less
