Antique brass and agate snuff box 18th to early 19th century. This antique snuff box is all original and dates from either the 18th or early 19th century. The agate stone top and bottom each have large agate stones inset into them. This box measures 2 and one half inches wide by three quarter inches deep by seven eighth inches high.This piece is on display in our gallery at Old Saybrook Antiques Center and can be seen in-person by visiting 756 Middlesex Tpke Old Saybrook, CT 06475. A lovely solid sterling silver matchbox holder. It measures 6cm long x 2cm x 4cm. It is engraved with 'TB' on the front. It will take a modern sized matchbox, although it is not a tight fit. A nice solid silver vesta case, made in Birmingham in 1911 by Joseph Gloster. It is stamped with 'J G Limited', an anchor for Birmingham, a lion for solid silver and an M for 1911. It measures 43mm tall, 40mm wide (not including thering)andapproximately 10mm deep. The lid has a very strong spring and shuts very positively. There is a couple of marks consumerate with age as it has been carried in someone's pocket, but overall it is in very good condition. A lovely vesta case that anyone would love to have in their collection.   « Less

Very Fine and Rare Edo Period Sagemono Tobacco Pipe Set from the collection of a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. Kiserutsuzu (pipe holder) of boxwood in the form of Ashinaga, an exquisitely carved elongated standing figure; Kiseru (pipe) of bamboo, steel and copper; Tonkotsu (tobacco box) of boxwood and teak in the form of Daruma with a large movable head and open mouth clasping an Ojime (sliding button) of ivory in the form of a skull. Original Box. Probably the finest pipe set you will see offered for sale. Holder: 8.25 inches, 21 cm; Pipe: 7.75 inches, 19.75 cm long; Tobacco Box: 4.75h x 3.25w inches, 12h x 8.25w cm. Excellent Condition. Compare to the similar piece in The Netsuke Collection of the Peabody Essex Museum, page 146, and we're sure you'll agree that this one is much finer than even that fine piece from one of the foremost collections.   « Less
