SOLD:A set of seven (7) miniature paintings on canvas of winged Tibetan protector deities and gods surrounded by flames including Vajrapani and Yama Dharma Raja. Four (4) of the miniatures are finely executed line drawings with color washes on a light-weight canvas. These four appear to have been done by the same artist and are of approximately the same size. The other three are painted on a heavier canvas - two of which are painted in full with darker pigments. The last of the seven is a red line drawing with color accents. These miniatures, probably used as protective amulets, would look attractive framed as a set. Period: Late 18th/19th Century Size: Approximately 9 cm. x 7 cm. each. Please see individual images for exact sizes. Condition: Some fading and slight fraying of canvas borders due to age. Some areas with dirt spots (which we are leaving untouched). Price on request:A very rare portrait of the highest ranking official in the Emperor's court. This is based on the rank badge of the crane and the red hat. The painting is very intricate with a lot of gold work. The sleeves are painted with the heads of the Imperial Dragon and in the center there is a painting of the elusive flying pearl. The tips of the armrests and carved with the Linzhi mushroom. The word lingzhi, in Chinese, means "herb of spiritual potency" and has also been described as "mushroom of immortality" because of its presumed health benefits and apparent absence of side-effects, it has attained a reputation in the East as the ultimate herbal substance. The chair is most likely Huanghuali. Age: eighteen hundreds. Size: 230cm x 42cm. Condition; Wear around the edges. Some water marks throughout. Some paper pealing on the face.
