Arts and Crafts / Art Nouveau brass inlaid wooden box containing a manicure / dresser set. The manicure set was made by J.A. Henckels Zwillingswerk Solingen (Germany) - late 19th - early 20th century. The fabulous brass inlaid box was almost certainly made by Erhard and Sohne. Box measures approx 10 inches accross and 6 inches high. Brass box / casket with wood inlay. Rich wood with gorgeous patina and markings, curved and domed. The brass patterning is superb - see photos, and the ultimate in design, with scrolls, fans and symbolised flowers. The shapes and their repetition around all the surfaces of the box, give a strong sense of flowing movement. The deep inside section has an upper layer that is fitted for a manicure / dresser set with ivory handles. Two items are missing. The set includes a small corkscrew that would be used to remove the cork on a perfume bottle. The fitted tray is lined in blue velvet. The padded inside of the lid with royal purple cover has gilt embossed logo for J.A. Henckels Zwillingswerk SOlingen. A number of the manicure pieces are also marked with the Henckels logo (a pair of stylised people), that is still in use today. Condition is very good. Micro mosaic gilt metal and enamelled box, made Italy, 19th century. Measures slightly under 3 1/2inches in diameter and 2 inches high. Round box stands on 4 ball feet. Beaded border around micromosaic. The sides decorated with shaded enamel vines and berries. The top with exceptional scene of St. Peter''s and the square, Roman ruins, fountains, street lights and tiny people in the foreground. Fantastic fine and detailed work. Set in black marble. Inside has remains of original silk lining. Pin to hinge either replaced or in need of correction as cover does not sit quite right on the box. A round lacquer box depicting a troika in a snowy winter scene. Made by the Vishnyakov workshop during the reign of Alexander III (19th century). Diameter is 3 1/2inches.Beautifully painted snow landscape on top of box. 2 woman passengers, a standing driver, raised arm urging on the horses, in a troika pulled by 3 horses. Condition of painting is excellent, especially considering the age of the piece. Unfortunatley, the lid is stuck closed. Almost certainly there is an Imperial award stamp inside, hidden from view. The rest of the box is in very good condition. The Vishnayakov lacquer works, founded in the 1780''s, was later to become the basis of the Fedoskino lacquer work group. Great relief carving and detail showing anatomy through thick coat and very fine fingers and toes. Quizzical expression on his face. Lid of box fits perfectly. Outstanding Art Nouveau deep green glass dresser box in gilt metal mounts and applied decoration. Made in France late 19th century.Measures 3inches high and 4 3/4inches accross.Magnificent rich forest green glass. Round shape, neck has 10 facets.Foot enclosed in a gilt metal ring with raised foliage and berries. 4 quintessial Nouveau flowers are attached to the glass on the sides, each depicting a flower with elegantly scrolling petals and assymetrical foliage. The lid is gold plated and has applied buds, foliage of various sorts and a marvellous medallion with the bust of a woman in 3/4 back view, turning to face the front. Elegant back and shoulders, flowers and bows in hair, radiating sunburst effect. Condition is MINT. No damage or flaws of any sort. OUTSTANDING enamelled box. Probably German. Dates to about 1740. Measures: 3 1/4inch long; 2 3/8inch front to back and 1 1/2inch high. The box is enamel on metal. The metal frame might be gold as was often the case, but this is not clear. It is beautifully decorated with delicate engraving, and the thumb piece is a raised arc. The box itself is rectangular with a slightly arched lid. The outside of the box is handpainted in a soft pink red. Each surface depicts a scene of village life: the top shows a mother and little child walking in the countryside, swathed in flowing garments, the rural scenery around them and village in the background wonderfully depicted, the features and detail of their faces, clothing and basket fabulous. On the front is a poor beggar or travelling hawker, leaning on his stick, heavy sack on his back. Large hat, bent over from his burden. Again, wonderful, wonderful depiction. The sides have wonderful village and rural scenes. Each a great piece in it''s own right. The back depicts an old woman resting on a bench in the countryside. Fine, fine detail. Even the underside has a small vignette. The inside of the lid is definately museum quality. It depicts an aristocratic, wealthy lady. She smiles gently out at the viewer. Holds a green parasol in one hand. She is dressed in the finest of clothes with embroidery, lace and ruffles. Her hair is beautifully set and curled and fabulously depicted with the finest detail of the flower decoration and matching earrings. Her face is soft and beautiful, painted in delicate detail and colours. As is to be expected, there is surface cracking in many places on this box. Metalwork in very good condition. Antique Persian paper mache jewelry or dresser box, handpainted with birds, flowers and foliage. Probably 19th century.Measures 4 5/8 inches in diameter.The background of the box is black. It is painted with delicate flowers and leaves in pinks and greens, very much in the classic Persian taste. A pretty bird in yellow and blue sits atop the flowers. Unusual and ornate ''clasp'' in which the lid extends to the bottom of the box in 3 semi-circles. While the box is clearly very old, it is in very good condition. Fabulous carved yellow glass trinket / jewelry box with lid. Probably French, late 19th century. Measures 2 5/8'' accross. Faceted into 16 sides, cylindrical orange-yellow glass box. Lid is superbly carved with a scene depicting a woman dressed in Greek toga, waving a billowing shawl, two young godlike musicians on either side. One panlike, plays on a flute, the other, winged, a triangle. They stand on a decorative base. Excellent quality workmanship. Condition is extremely good.
