Pair of 18th century Florentine still life paintings. Oil on canvas in their original frames. One shows a magpie with a basket of vegetables, an urn of flowers, and scattered mushrooms. The other shows a parrot with a basket of berries, an urn of flowers and a lemon. Both paintings have been cleaned but not relined. The canvases are in good condition. The surfaces show some cracqueleure comensurate with their age, but no lifting paint. The frames measure 57.5 inches wide by 41 inches high by 2 and three quarter inches deep.. The frame stock is 3 one half inches wide.   « Less

Still life painting of flowers by English artist F McJannet. This lovely still life oil on artist board was painted by a very accomplished artist. So far we have only been able to find one auction record for the artist, James Thompson Aucioneers and Valuers Kirkby Lonsdale, Lancashire, England lot 178 on 1.21.04, will add to the artists bio as we come across more information. The label on the back reads F. McJannet 5 Cragsland Park Great Urswick Ulverston Studio Tarn Close. The painting measures 16 by 20 inches and the frame measures 20 by 24 and one half inches. "The villages of Great Urswick and Little Urswick, together called Urswick, are located in the Furness peninsula, part of the county of Cumbria in the United Kingdom. They are situated to the south-west of the town of Ulverston. Great Urswick is situated along the north and west sides of Urswick Tarn, a modest body of water (c. 1100 feet by 600), although the largest such natural body in Low Furness. The tarn is fed from the surrounding hills and feeds Gleaston Beck to the south, the water is said to have a red hue due to the iron content of the surrounding land. Little Urswick, the smaller of the two settlements, stands further south on the lower slopes of a limestone outcrop known as Bolton Heads." Antique 19th Century Gouache unsigned. This painting measures 15 and one sixteenth inches high by 16 and 13 sixteenths inches wide. This image of this antique unsigned gouache measures 8 and one quarter inches wide by six and one quarter inches high. Features: dead pigeon, pears, carrot, onion, possibly a radish, and a bottle, possibly containing oil, wine perhaps. This item was hard to photograph due to the glass in the frame, it is in excellent condition.   « Less

Exhibited in New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Chicago. He created original lithographs, etchings and book illustrations. Provenance from the archives of the Associated American Artists of New York which was created in the1930's and commisioned works by Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton,Reginald Marsh and others. The frame measures 41 inches high by 29 inches wide. The painting measures 24 by 36 inches and is painted on a wood panel.   « Less

A beautiful watercolour still life painting of a selection of fruit, unprepared and sliced. It is signed although the signature is hard to read and dated 1920. The signature seems to start Alex Van H but is unreadable after that. It measures 37cm wide and 30cm high. It is not a vibrant picture but seems to revel in the fact that it is understated. It has a beautiful accuracy to colour, shadow and depth.   « Less
