Drainage holes to interior of spout. Vent hole to cover. Similar piece illustrated on page 138, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Generally good. No cracks. No hairlines. Slight wear to rim of teapot opening. Kiln effect: minor kiln soot caught in glaze to flange on cover. Restored chip to cover flange, finial, rim, and tip of handle. Here is a mid 19th century JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY box featuring a charming rendition of sleeping Buddha with his bag used as a large pillow. Rendered to the Japanese taste, this exquisite lacquer box includes a bordered gilt tray with a subtle spray of tied chrysanthemums and leaves. The reverse of tray,lid and box interior are dusted with a gilt bronze nashiji ground. Condition is very fine, with very minor wear to gilt on edges, appropriate for a work of this period.
