Wonderful Pair of 1920s to 1930s Edwardian Style Sconces. The backplates of these sconces are cast metal with a lovely pewter patina. The shades are great, and made of embossed glass. They have a thick ruffled, beaded pattern at the top rim, and a trailing floral motif in the center. Amber color, with clear reveal. The shades are a bit taller than normal, making it nice for bulb selection. Measurements: * Height: 10 ½" * Width: 4 ¾" (at the backplate) * Projection: 6" from the wall into the room. Completely re wired to UL standards in our UL shop with new medium base sockets. Silverized Old Brass/Bronze LARGE Figural Peacock Sconce Sometimes, its just a bit difficult to describe a unique object to sufficient clarity. This item just might qualify. Made as a total "look-at-me" item, it is a wonderful French casting of a peacock with a remarkable cast tail. The tail has five light sockets for emphasis, and perhaps even could be used as an outstanding mood or night light for a large room. There is only one. When this item came to us, it had old fashioned English circa 1920s sockets in it for bayonet pin bulbs. This simply would not do. So...we gutted the electrical sockets, and installed American chandelier sockets inside the original mountings to take American candelabra bulbs. This was accomplished in our UL shop, so the utmost care is assured. However...normal light bulbs would put a point of light right into your face, and that wouldn't do either. So we installed mirror top bulbs, which direct light out to the sides at 180°, and projects none of the light into your face. These bulbs are called Silver Crown Globes, and are made by Satco (stock numbered S3246). We think this bulb gives an outstanding effect. We will supply these bulbs, as pictured, with the light. The castings are outstanding. As you can tell from the picture taken with Michael (of our UL shop), the sconce is quite large. The finish is the old fashioned silverizing, which was so popular with the British and Art Nouveau markets. Measurements: * Height: 22" * Width: 18 ½" French and British lighting did not use American electrical boxes, so this sconce was never designed for it. To make it screw into an American electrical box, we would have to drill a mounting hole through the tail-fan, and we simply could not bring ourselves to this. So...we left the French mounting loop on the back. The mounting will be by this loop from a substantial hooking device you install. It is a heavy sconce, so the hanging device should be mounted into a strut or beam behind your drywall. Our idea would be to place the center of the figure over an electrical box for the electrical connections, and then calculate the best place to put the loop. But...a second option does exist. This could also be created as a table display with the addition of a backing stand of some reliable type. We have removed the French sockets and installed E26, normal size screw-in American sockets. We also retrofitted the backplate to install onto a UL approved electrical box. The metal frames are solid brass, which showcases some of the most beautiful cut cameo scene shades that we have seen. Antiques...not quite...but the quality is 10 out of 10. We installed Normal American sockets, so strong LED light bulbs can be used to show the dramatic glass scenes. We have seen French sconces with wimpy little sockets that simply do not do the fine glass shade artist justice. We will also include the bulbs we think work best. Almost reminds you of an Art Nouveau...but not quite. The metal of the backplates is cast iron, which has a lovely pewter finish. Pair of Polychrome Turn of the Century Wall Sconces with Ruby Tipped Amber Shades What a nice turn-of-the-century pair of sconces these are! Original polychrome colors in VERY good condition. We hope the pictures do these sconces justice since they are in remarkable condition. Those original antique shades are simply works of art by themselves. The shades were pressed into a mold for the pattern, then the ruby-tipped edges were applied. The combination of amber and ruby glass is very attractive. The sconce backplates have a switch installed at the center which was renewed when the sconces were rewired. Lovely Pair of Circa 1920 Wall Sconces Pair of regal bearing wall sconces, with a crown design at the top, and hammered backplates. Nicer still that these are DOUBLE arm wall sconces, with nice original shades...which is getting a bit harder to find complete. Everyone seems to change them to candle sconces for ease of production, since usually one or more shades have disappeared. Some mixed metals are being used here, but all with a pewter High/Low finish which is very attractive. The antique shades are very nice, with an off-white background and yellow and gold designs. Some minimum design fading as expected with old shades, but nothing terribly significant. Measurements: * Height: 9 ¼" * Width: 9 ½" (maximum, including the shade) * Projection: 5 ¾" from the wall into the room. These sconces have been completely rewired in our UL shop with new sockets and all new original twisty rayon wire (visible in the pictures). The original antique shades are simple, with a typical cream coloring below that transitions to a band of embossed clear glass at the top and bottom. The metal of the backplates is cast zinc and aluminum with a lovely pewter finish. Measurements: * Height: 11 ¼" * Width: 5 ½" maximum, including the shade. This fixture has been completely re-wired in our UL shop with a normal everyday double porcelain socket. Each side of the socket is capable of accepting a 100 watt bulb for each shade. Pair of Very Impressive French 5-Light Large Outstanding Sconces Circa 1910-20+ We think these are an excellent choice for an area needing a significant pair of sconces. Measurements: * Height: These impressive antique wall statements are 43" tall. * Width: 19" shade-tip to shade-tip. * Projection: 12" from the wall into the room. * Weight: Each sconce weighs in at about 30 pounds. We completely re-wired these French sconces and removed the French sockets to convert them to our American bulbs and current. The mounting of these sconces is more unique than normal. That shield medallion, on the backplate between the arms, hides the main mounting device. The medallion itself is held onto the backplate by one slotted ball-screw, just visible in the picture. Behind the medallion, the mounting device uses a large bore NPS all-thread to a heavy duty specially-made crossbar, which we will supply. A completely sophisticated mounting and finish for a great pair of French antique sconces. This fixture comes complete with our neat little candle style LED bulb. This little 2 watt bulb produces almost as much light as a 25 watt incandescent bulb, but only nibbles at the electricity. AND...it lasts 30,000 hours.
