Extra fine, large Period American Empire/Classical armoire in the Gothic taste. This double door cabinet is done in the manner of the fine 19th c New York City cabinet maker, "Meeks". This wonderful piece features a bold crown over two large doors with large Gothic arches, flanked by simple full length columns. The legs are nicely proportioned "vase" turnings ending in bun feet. The entire cabinet is made of beautifully figured solid mahogany and spectacular mahogany veneers. Original brass key hole covers, lock and brass molding between the doors. Minor old repairs to the veneer and a shrinkage crack to one side. Original finish, cleaned and French polished. Very fine quality and condition.   « Less

Rare, English Campaign Desk. Amazingly intact, Edwardian Era folding Campaign table. Elegant design and proportions, and still complete and functional. This fine desk retains all its original hardware that allows it to be closed tightly in a folded position and by pressing an original brass button opened and then locked in place as a desk with another original brass catch on it's under-side. The interior is the original grained leather, with various pockets and original ink-well, including the interior glass and cover. The only repair (pictured) is a re-gluing of a crack to the top of the leg where it attaches to the desk top. Solid Mahogany, all original finish, fine "as found" condition.   « Less

Monumental American late Victorian mahogany sideboard of exceptional quality and condition. The most unusual pierce carved side elements, give this piece a wonderful look from any angle. These heavy pierce carvings, flank a pair of beveled mirrors and shelf and are connected by a simple yet elegant arched top. The front edges of the side elements are acanthus- leaf carved from top to bottom. The base features two long door cabinets and a two door center cabinet. There is a single, velvet- lined silver ware drawer above each long drawer and two curved drawers above the center cabinet. All the base elements are heavily carved and the draw fronts are matched crotch mahogany veneers. The original brown marble top has a beveled edge and is in mint condition. This amazing piece is all original, no restoration or refinishing and no missing pieces. Last but not least, are the oversized brass hardware, all there and mint. All together the most exceptional Victorian mahogany sideboard we have ever had. 75 1/2" wide x 24" deep x 94" tall.   « Less

English, signed "Maple & Co." The finest vanity/dressing table we have ever seen. All original finish , crotch mahogany with pencil inlay. Folding beveled glass mirrors and beveled glass work surfaces. Brass hinges, catches and details. Interior of case has original velvet compartments and light green enamel paint where the dressing bottles rest. There are two spring-loaded mechanisms to reach the secret, velvet lined jewelry drawers. The various dresser bottles are cut crystal and hallmarked sterling silver. The manicure set and other assorted pieces are ivory. There are also two removable and adjustable lights that fit over the mirror and have the original silk and lace shades. This piece is signed by the maker and has registration numbers on it. There is really too much detail for us to include in this description, a true masterpiece, this piece of furniture should be experienced in person.   « Less

Important, American black walnut dressing case, which we strongly believe to be by the 19th c master designer-craftsman, Isaac E. Scott (1845-1920). Scott gained fame for his work as seen in the John J. Glessner house in Chicago. His furniture was also on display in the Chicago Exposition of 1893. This chest is a fine example of his late Victorian "eclectic medievalism", which was influenced by the work of the English designers Charles Eastlake and Christopher Dresser, which incorporate their "five principals of design". Solid Walnut, inset with signed "Minton China Works, Stoke On Trent" tiles and brown marble. The key holes, locks and castors are all original, we believe the drop pulls are old replacements. Very fine original finish and original flat mirror. The dressing case is 54 3/4" wide x 23" deep x 85 1/4" tall.   « Less

19th Century American Victorian Centennial china closet/ curio in the Classical Empire Revival style. This handsome cabinet has everything Excellent proportions, elegant detail and beautifully figured mahogany. Original mirrored back on the top section which has two long doors and two original wood shelves. Under the long doors there are two curved drawers with highly figured "book-matched" mahogany veneers. The bottom section is not mirrored and has one original wood shelf. There is glass on three sides, carved capitals on the columns and well carved claw feet. Original working locks with keys. Refinished sometime in the recent past.   « Less

Unusual shape, featuring a double door bookcase topped by a spindle gallery over an elegantly gilt-incised cylinder desk with pull out writing surface and Birds' Eye maple interior. Two good size shelves, flank the cylinder, above a single drawer and double door cabinet all gilt incised in the same Japanesque Taste. All original hardware and finish, with gilt incising.
