Mid-West was a top-of-the-line manufacturer, who in their beginning, only cast solid bronze lights that were exceedingly difficult due to their reticulated surfaces. A bit later during the Depression, they added a white metal capacity to compete with Lincoln Mnf, who had the business of Sears. During the Depression, Sears customers would NOT normally come up to the pricing level of Bronze Materials, so Mid-West created exciting new aluminum lines to compete. Mid-West survived the Depression, and was sold a few years back to a large lighting conglomerate. (Information courtesy of the Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.)
These sconces are Bronzed & Nickel FINISHED on cast aluminum. Like an old Persian carpet, some mellowed wear to the bronze finish is there, but still an outstanding pair of antique Art Deco sconces with mint condition frosted shades.
We have re-wired these sconces to UL standards with new sockets in our UL shop. Each sconce has a rotary switch. They are ready to hang with a standard light mounting kit, which we will supply.
Measurements:
•Height: 11 ½"
•Width: 6 ½"
•Projection: A mere 4" from the wall into the room.
These sconces can be fitted with either incandescent or LED bulbs. For incandescent bulbs, we recommend using no more than 60 to 65 watts to protect the fragile antique shades from excessive heat.
Price: $935.00 for the pair with their frosted, near-mint glass shades, plus $25.00 for Ground Shipping within the contiguous 48 states.
Residents of Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and International Customers: We gladly ship our listings to customers worldwide. Shipping costs are calculated and separately invoiced on a per-order basis. We complete the necessary paperwork to export our products. You are responsible for any additional paperwork required and any duty or customs fees. These interesting sconces can be used in either Art Deco or Arts and Crafts décor scheme. The metal is finished in a rich copper bronze look, while the interesting rich colored shades gives a definite impression. The shades are really quite interesting...amber color glass with some embossed pattern designs. There are windows without pattern alternating between stippled designs.
Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Candelabrum porcelain sockets for everyday small base candelabra bulbs were installed in each. Original rayon covered twist wire was used for an antique appearance. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied.
Measurements:
Height: 10"
Width: 5" including the shade.
Projection: 7 ¾" from the wall into the room.

Original antique sconces with an original antique brass finish.
The metal framed amber shades are really quite lovely when lit with nice contrasting crystal drops below. With a strong bulb, they give an ambiance that is just lovely. Not easy to find quality like this. The contrast of the BRASS body is quite striking. These sconces have a rich formality, and yet just have so much nice detail. So unusual and so striking.
We took our picture with a mere 15 watt bulb so the camera lens would focus on the entire sconce and shade detail...not get blown out by too strong of bulb.
These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with new medium base, normal, porcelain sockets and all new wire. A mounting kit will be supplied.
Measurements:
Height: 14"
Width: 4 5â„8"

Original older sconces with an original antique BRASS hi/lo finish.
We believe the original maker was French, since it had European sockets in it when obtained. However, the placement of the sockets was pitiful for light output because it left large dark patches throughout the fixture. So...we changed that. Instead of two sockets (original fixture), it now has four sockets for chandelier bulbs. The new layout is two sockets in the top section and two sockets in the bottom section, for a total of 8 bulbs in two sconces.
We are showing the sconces with our LED bulbs. LED bulbs are included with the purchase of these fixtures, and the bulbs are 2700°K bulb color...which is considered identical to incandescent light bulb color. Please note our picture of the LED bulb included with these sconces.
The contrast of the BRASS body is quite striking. These sconces have a rich formality, and yet just have so much good detail.
As mentioned, these sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with normal candelabrum base, porcelain sockets and all new wire. A mounting kit will be supplied.
Measurements:
Height: 14" overall.
Width: 9" (maximum)
Projection: 4 ¼" from the wall into the room.
Price for the pair with eight LED bulbs: $1,375.00 plus $50.00 for careful packing and Ground Shipping within the contiguous 48 states.

Original antique backplates and original antique shades. These sconces have a formal Edwardian ambiance, and have a pewter look that is so typical of the Edwardian design style.
The original antique shades are simple, with a typical custard coloring below, converting to a band of clear glass at the top.
The metal of the backplates is cast zinc and aluminum with a lovely pewter finish.
These sconces have been completely re-wired with true bakelite sockets (regular household size medium base) and all new wire. We have also replaced the switches, made by Leviton in the '20s...and still made up to two years ago. So these switches, by Leviton, are becoming more antique as we note this.
Measurements:
Height: 10 ¼"
Width: 4 ¾" for the backplate; 3" for the shade.
Projection: 6" from the wall into the room.
$385.00 for the complete pair...plus $25.00 for Ground Shipping to addresses within the contiguous 48 states.

Pair of Outstanding Solid Brass and Bronze Gothic Dragon Sconces
Solid brass/bronze griffins with spread wings, holding a pair of rather nice crackle glass shades from about the 1920s.
When received, they had European sockets in them, so the origin is a bit of a mystery. We would guess either German or French by the type of casting and electrical wiring. Wherever they are from, they are simply outstanding.
Measurements:
Height: 22" overall, measured from the top of the backplate to the bottom of the shade.
Width: 11 ½" (wing spread)
Projection: 11" from the wall into the room.
We have totally re-wired these sconces in our UL shop with American medium base sockets and new supply wire. They do not, and never did, have switches, since that is not necessarily a European custom.
We changed the mounting, as well. It now mounts to a standard American electrical box (with the button shown above the dragon's back) to a standard American crossbar, which will be supplied

ANT-524 Pair of Eastlake Style Brass Candle Holder Wall Sconces with Beveled Mirrors
Simply gorgeous! This pair of candle sconces with mirrors is a great example of the designs that characterized the Eastlake movement.
The Eastlake Movement started in the late Victorian period by Charles Locke Eastlake. His book Hints on Household Taste in Furniture, Upholstery, and Other Details was a treatise for new ideas in home design and furniture. The book emphasized the importance of pride in craftsmanship, and illustrated the concept of functional design for furniture and other everyday items around the home. Eastlake's designs featured decorative, shallow relief patterns that were geometric and rectilinear, with only a few restrained curves. His ideas were a 180° turn from the deep relief carvings and elaborate ornamentation that were so popular during the High Victorian era.
These candle sconces are circa the 1870s, and made of solid brass. The decorative pattern on both frames are crisp and clear, with little wear. The candle cups do have a few minor dings (not terribly noticeable), but to be expected given their age. The beveled mirrors are in great shape, and have only lost a little of their original silvering.
The sconces have a brass ring attached to the back for mounting on a wall. There is a small cast tab, located lower on the back, that has a hole drilled through. This may have been used for an easel-style leg or support to allow the sconces to be placed on a dresser or other furniture surface.
Measurements:
* Height: 16 ¼" overall.
* Width: 10 ¾" overall.
* Projection: 3 ¼"
* Mirror: 8 â…œ" tall x 5 â…" wide.
* Candle Cup Openings: 15â„16" diameter.
* Mounting Ring for Wall: 1" outer diameter, 11â„16" interior diameter.
$715.00 for the pair, plus $25.00 for Ground Shipping within the contiguous 48 states.

ANT-528 Twenties Era Wall Sconces..a Pair
Lovely set of Circa 1920s wall sconces. Original antique sconces with amazing shell motif antique amber shades. These sconces have a lovely before-Depression pewter look, and a great design that is so typical of the Twenties motif.
The amber shell motif shades are so very nice. They are cast glass, with a deep pattern that is nicely shaped.
Admirable is how the shapes are all tied together. There is a scroll on the backplate, repeated with a scroll on the shade fitter and finial too. Even the tops of the shades repeat this curve to tie all the decorative elements together. A nice presentation.
The metal of the backplates is cast metal with a lovely LIGHT pewter finish.
Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice. The shades are shorter than average, so lower profile light bulbs with a regular E26 base are recommended.
These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with new sockets and wire. Each sconce contains a rotary on/off switch identical to the ones used in the early 1900s.
Measurements:
Height: 10" overall.
Width: 5 ¼" (maximum)

Lovely pair of Circa 1920 wall sconces.
Original antique sconces, with original Art Glass antique shades.
These sconces have a lovely Edwardian pewter look, and a great design that is so typical of the Edwardian style.
The original antique shades are also so very nice. They are an ivory color, with clear applied art glass touches to each side. A nice combination indeed!
The backplates are cast metal, with a lovely pewter finish.
Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice. We suggest a tubular S-10 bulb, which is the same kind of tubular bulb often used in desk lamps. It gives a balanced light for this longer shade.
