Over-sized, Late Victorian "hat box" dresser in cherry. Strikingly handsome, featuring detail we have never seen before. This large fine chest of drawers has a hand carved scene of a stag, standing under a tree as it's centerpiece on it's back splash. The chest itself is six drawers high, with two short drawers and a hat box over four larger, graduated long drawers. Each drawer is decorated with a large, ornate carved flourish. The hat box door is a simple raised panel and there is a nicely carved detail on both the top and bottom of each flanking column. The hardware consists of four smaller matching pieces in pressed brass on the small drawers and eight larger similar pieces on the large drawers. All the hardware is late 19th century but I am not sure which were the original pieces. They go so well together I did not notice the difference until after I had purchased the chest. Original working locks and key. Very good refinished condition. 72" tall (with casters) x 43 1/2" wide, 20" deep.   « Less

Extra fine American Rococo Rosewood mirrored chest. Unusually styled, with the ornate mirror frame set 5" forward on the white marble surface, something we have not seen before. Passed down in a prominent Baltimore family this extraordinary piece of furniture has all the qualities found in the best cabinet work of it's day. Highly figured Rosewood solids and veneers, exceptional hand carvings, beautiful form and proportions and minute attention to detail. The base is serpentine, with two large drawers, columned sides with carved capitals and bases on "pumpkin" carved feet. Each drawer has a finely carved detail on each side and original carved knobs. The molding around the inset white marble is a fine, heavy gadroon. The heavily carved dressing mirror swivels from it's ornate arms and retains it's original plate in good condition. Original working locks and keys. All original, lightly cleaned and polished with only small losses to the drawer edges. Over all fine original condition. 84 1/2" tall x 48" wide, 22" deep.   « Less

Fine, American Aesthetic Movement desk. This is a wonderful example of "Japanesque" design, which was in vogue among the most fashion conscious of the late 19th century. Small and elegant, with a "growing" bamboo design on the three lower drawers and a stylized depiction of moon and mountains on the backsplash. There are also three small drawers above the desk surface which retain their original purple velvet linings. Framing the top decorative panel are open- work geometric designs in an Asian motif, which also bracket the drawers above the curved out legs. The desk slides out to make sitting easy and features an easily replaced soft-gold leather surface. All original ebonized cherry finish and period brass hardware. Two of the original locks and keys are still functioning. Beautiful patina, some old re-gluing. Measures 48” in height, 29 3/4” in width, and 20 1/4” in depth. Fine and graceful,19th c American Renaissance Revival inlaid stand. Extra nice quality and condition, this petite, three tiered table/music stand, has an exceptionally well done marquetry inlay of musical instruments, flowers and various Victorian flourishes. The central design on the top tier is inlaid into an ebonized rectangle which is set into mahogany. The primary wood for all three shelves is mahogany, but the color makes it look like rosewood. The supports and legs are ebonized and the support between the second and bottom shelf curves out in a graceful serpentine and the legs themselves, curve out. All three shelves are trimmed in finely cast brass and the top features a pierced, open-work gallery on three sides. Re-glued and beautifully French polished. 16" wide x 11 1/2" deep x 31 1/2 " high.   « Less

Each corner is decorated with inlaid flowers in exotic veneers and surrounded by a fine band of satinwood string inlay and finished with a mahogany band. The bottom shelf is fine solid mahogany as are the well turned legs. Both the top and bottom shelves are finished in a detailed pressed brass edging.
