Here is a 19th Century English oil on canvas, depicting kids on a swing. It is adorned in an excellent quality gilded frame. There is an artist signature, but it is not clearly seen. The artist has a great use of color that has aged well over time, c. 1870, with superb detail throughout the whole piece. The only damage is a slight crack to both the bottom right and left sides of the frame but neither are hardly noticable and do not detract in any way from the beauty or stability of the item. The frame has an antiqued gold trim along the inside and outside edges, with a chocolate brown tone on tone scroll design in between. The print is of two children with a rocking horse, with main colors of red, orange, green, brown, black, gold, and white. The print is framed with a tan matt. Both the frame and print are in very good condition. Including the frame, this piece measures 37 1/8" in height, 36 5/8" from side to side, and 1 1/8" from front to back. Weight is 18 pounds. Applied carving details are on each corner, which are also highlighted in gold. The print is of a mother with three children and done in wonderful, rich colors. The main colors are greens, reds, oranges, golds, and white. It is matted in a forest green, which is a great compliment to the print. It looks like "1889" in the lower left corner, but it is very hard to read. This piece, including the frame, measuring 20 3/4" in height, 24 3/4" from side to side, and 1 1/8" thick. There are some pieces of the frame that are missing, which we have shown in the photographs. The print is of a beautifully dressed young woman, and it has that great sienna cast that only comes with age. There are a few scratches in the picture. Doublet's enamels are the most important and highest quality 18th and 17th century French enamels that exist today. This example is a superb composition depicting an artist pondering his next painting. Behind him two semi nude models vie for his attention. The colors, quality and composition of this extraordinary subject are the finest of any 18th or 17th century enamel extant. The enamel measures 10-1/2 inches high by 8 inches wide.
