Circa 1885. Unusually detailed, beautifully carved and gilded, Eastlake, Aesthetic Movement, over-mantel mirror. This large fine mirror is another exceptional example of American Victorian architectural detail. Although definitely late 19th century, this gorgeous mirror contains design elements of the earlier Rococo Style, with flowers, fruits & nuts and large leafy corner elements. Besides all the very fine detail, what really makes this mirror a standout is the fact that all the original gilding and gesso is virtually intact with only about a four inch, half round molding near the top missing gesso and gilding which we can easily fix, if so desired and an old re-gluing of the small top center element which is not noticeable. The mirror glass is also unusual with deep cutting instead of a bevel, which we believe is original as the mirror retains it's original wood back that does not look as if it has ever been touched. The plate is in good old condition with some minor loss to the silver and age appropriate scratches. There is also a one inch mahogany band running on the bottom of the mirror which is either original or many decades old and which we could remove if necessary to make it an inch shorter. This is a spectacular piece on the wall and would be an asset to any fine home or business. 67” high x 61" wide x 5" deep at the base. Price 3200.   « Less

Rare, extra fine Victorian gilded pier mirror. American Renaissance Revival style at it's height, fresh from a Brooklyn Heights New York townhouse mansion. The center crest is unusual in that the figurehead crest is a Classical man with a chaplet of leaves around his head. The body of this elegant mirror has the most beautiful and complex gilding I have seen with high gloss gold over lower sheen gilding so that the contrast that makes the design is very subtle as in color on color fabric. Many of the elaborate design elements on the piece are done in the higher, smoother "water gilded" finish, which adds to the beauty of this architectural masterpiece. All original "as found" condition with the original mirror in excellent condition and original back. Some loss to the gilding, especially on the bottom and an age crack on the bottom right and left sides. The vast majority of the gilding above the bottom section is in very good condition with only minor rubbing and loss. Size, 117" tall x 37" wide at bottom molding and 40" wide at top molding x 7" deep.   « Less

All original pair of large cast bronze mirrored candle sconces. Each one of these finely cast sconces features an original oval beveled mirror framed by a ring of acanthus leaves which is in turn surrounded by an outer ring of open cast leaves. The large top crest has more leaves with the head of a lion as the center of the medallion. The bottom of the frame features more leaves with a flower center to which three candle arms with cast cups and bobeche are attached. Good original condition with only a small (1/2") area of loss to the silver on the bevel of one mirror. Original brass back and cast brass hanger. Can be electrified for an extra charge.. Fine original patina. 20 " tall x 11 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" deep. Price 1200 for the pair.   « Less
