Antique, VIctorian, Egyptian Revival scarab brooch. 14 carat gold, turquoise and pearls. Circa 1870. Measures about 1 3/8inches accross widest part; 1 1/8 inches top to bottom. Weighs 7.3grams. Archaelogical discoveries in the 19th century had the Victorian population obsessed with Ancient civilisations and their artefacts. This is a Classic Egyptian Revival brooch designed with a pair of sphynxes on either side of a turquoise scarab, under lotus flowers and lieing on a pair of outspread eagle wings. Set with pearls. Filigree and raised details. Wonderful modelling of the faces of the sphynxes, texturing of the lotus flowers and engraving of the scarab. Beautiful quality design and workmanship. Simply beautiful antique pair of drop / dangle earrings - garnets and pearls set in silver. Believed to date to late 19th / early 20th century (Victorian / Edwardian era). Measure 1 3/4 inches long. Made of simply wonderful tiny garnet beads, which we believe to be the rarer hessonite garnet, small round pearls, perfectly matched, and carbuncle, larger pyrope garnet drops. Set in silver, the metal of choice for most Victorian jewellery. Earrings consist of 3 sections, attached to the ear by a simple post. The upper, geometric section with a diamond/square shape, centering around a pearl and ending in overlapping scrolls. A small amount of movement is enabled by the well-fitting loops that link this section to the long, tapering middle - openwork with minute filigree metal and a line of the same matching pearls in the center. A loop connects a beautifully set carbuncle cabochon garnet with the appearance of a bud or fruit, with a large range of motion - swinging freely as the wearer moves. The whole is outlined in gently sparkling garnets with a fiery orange-red glow. Workmanship is outstanding. Hallmarked 925 on the closed back of the cabochon garnet. This mark was used from at least 1860, so it is difficult to date the earrings exactly except by style and quality of workmanship. Very good condition. Very unusual Memorial ring. Made as a co-joined series of bands with various patterns and surface treatment of each. The central band with black enamelled ''IN MEMORY OF''. The inside of the band is engraved: M.A. Davie. Ob Jan18th 1877 At 72. There is also a row of illegible hallmarks - too worn to read. Not just unusual, but particularly attractive, the ring does have some enamel ware, shown highly magnified in the ''photos, but more than compensated for in the fine quality of the workmanship and design. Antique sterling silver brooch in the form of a bird in the Victorian, Egyptian Revival style, made circa 1870-80. Measures just under 2 1/4 inches long. Weighs 5.8 grams. Marvellous shape in openwork silver: the bird manages to combine both naturalistic and stylised elements, easilly identifiable, yet with long, curving wings, concentric patterned arches depicting feathers, reverse series of very Egyptian style smaller wing shapes closer to the body and a bottom that spreads out and curls around, ending in scrolls, signifying the tail. Fine modelled head and detail including eyes. Original secure clasp and pin. Hallmarked 925 for Sterling silver on the back. Good condition. Weigh 3.7grams. Approx 5/8 inches long. Earrings consist of a pair of interlocking circles / loveknots - each a tube of gold, the fronts decorated with fine filigree and granulation and set with tiny emeralds and natural pearls. The design is typical of a modern, 20th century, pre-dating it by almost 100 years. Still maintaining the exquisite Victorian workmanship. Antique, Victorian brooch in the form of a crown. 14 carat gold, diamonds, opals and turquoise. Circa 1860 - 1885. Approx 1 5/16inches accross widest part. Weighs 6.2grams. Length of largest turquoise approx 8 mm. Opals approx 4mm in diameter. 27 tiny rosecut diamonds. Beautifully crafted in 14 carat gold with some silver setting for the diamonds. Crown curves gently. Swooping arches end in overlapping foliage set with diamonds, each pair supporting an oval turquoise set in gold colettes with crimped borders. A band of similarly shaped diamond foliage alternates with a pair of lovely opals, with good iridescence and flash. Finally, a narrow band of diamonds provides a sense of perspective. Secure clasp. Antique, Victorian watch fob in the form of a 14carat gold dog sitting on a large gem cushion. Made 1840-80. ??? Approx length is 1 1/4 inches. Weighs 14.4grams. Base is set on a large, oval gemstone. Technically an aquamarine, but colour in natural light looks quite clear (not blue) and clearly has a number of flaws. Colette set with the top of the base having a naturalistic surface with scattered flowers. A fantastically modelled greyhound dog; he twists slightly off center in his glance. He wears a collar with links for holding a chain. The posture is perfect for depicting the superb sculpture - exquisitely fine detail showing muscles and skeleton below it, arched bridge of his nose, skinny, muscular legs typical of wind breeds and the fastest of canines. The only flaw is a tiny hole, shown magnified very largely in the pictures, but that does not detract at all in reality and is commensurate with an item of this age and delicate material.
