Probably French or of French influence, these six sconces nearly perfectly match, with only subtle differences. The difference seems to be mainly that two of the sconces have slightly smaller bows at the top. This probably resulted from the original customer buying a set of four...and perhaps returning months, or years, later to buy another pair of sconces. These sconces are solid brass with their original aged patina. They also have a polished metal backing so the reflection of the bulb is a bit magnified, which has a nice effect through the crystals. Measurements: Each sconce is 10 3/4" tall by 6 1/2" wide. They project into a room a mere 3 1/2". These lights have all been re-wired in our UL shop and are ready for installation. The french sockets were replaced with American candelabrum sockets, as well as new lead wires, so they are all ready to go with American style mounting supplied. Nice pair of circa 1920 wall sconces. Original "hammered effect" oil rubbed dark finished sconces. The metal of the backplates is cast metal. Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice. The sockets that are used are normal medium based sockets, so any decorative bulb made for a normal socket will work. We are using a common flame style bulb, which we will include with the hope that it makes the shipping without damage. These bulbs can be purchased at almost every light or big box store. These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop, with new sockets and all new wire. We have also replaced the rotary switches, made by Leviton in the 20's...and were still made up to ONE year ago. So these switches by Leviton are becoming even more rare as we note this. Measurements: The overall sconce height is 10". It will project into the room from the wall 4". The backplate, by itself, measures: 8 1/2" tall by 4 1/4" wide. Cast 1920-30 Art Deco sconces with interesting HEAVY cast French Art Deco angular slip-in shades. Very unusual indeed. The metal finish is pewter and bright polished metal with high/lo accents. Very striking. Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Normal bakelite sockets for everyday medium base bulbs were installed. The backplate has a rotary switch for on and off. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied. Measurements: Overall height is 11 3/4”. Overall widest part is the shade which is 4 5/8” wide. Projects into the room 6 1/8”. The measurements of the backplate are only 11 3/4” tall by 4 1/8” at it’s widest point. They are a custard color in the middle, topped with a see-through darker rim with etched design. The metal of the backplates is cast metal with a lovely pewter finish. Very impressive nickel plated sconces, circa 1930+. We completely rewired these sconces and they just stand out as a complete Art Deco statement with their stepped backplate (also matched on the finial) and the stepped pattern on the frosted shades. We apologize for any discoloring of the shades in the pictures due to the camera misinterpreting the light. The shades are matched frosted shades. They are not grey or any other strange colors. Simple and frosted. Not much more to say about these other than to give you the measurements. They make a statement all by themselves. Measurements: Overall height is 8 3/8”. The shade has a diameter of 4 3/8”. It projects into a room a mere 5 1/4”. The backplate measures: 3 1/2” wide by 7” in height. All mounting hardware will be supplied with these sconces. Original antique sconces with the original antique brass finish. The shades are really quite lovely. They are beautiful Bohemian cobalt blue overlay crystal with a hand cut design. Simply elegant, and quality to the maximum. With a strong bulb, they give an ambiance that is quite lovely with the sparkle of the cut crystal. Add to the shades the nice crystal drops, and we have a simply lovely and elegant pair of sconces. Not easy to find quality like this. We took our picture with a mere 15 watt bulb so the camera lens would focus on the entire sconce and shade detail...not get blown out by too strong of bulb. These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with all new sockets and new wire. Very neat shell motif pair of British theatre style sconces. These sconces are often called “Odeon Sconces,” since main movie house chains in Britain named all of their theatres “Odeon”. In fact...it sometimes is a synonymous term for a movie theatre when in Britain. These sconces had frosted, amber and even pink tinted shades around the turn of the century. In older British theaters, you can still see them existing where they have been for over half a century or more. This particular pair is a more recent manufacturer, but still retains the ambiance and magic of the very earliest types. We have re-wired these sconces to updated UL standards with new medium base sockets, switches, and wiring. These are ready to hang with an American standard light mounting kit, which we will supply. These sconces have a lovely before-depression pewter look and a great design that is so typical of the Twenties motif. The amber shell motif shades are so very nice. They are a deep cast glass with deep pattern which is nicely shaped. Admirable is how the shapes are all tied together. There is a scroll on the backplate, repeated with a scroll on the shade fitter and finial too. Even the tops of the shades repeat this curve to tie all the decorative elements together. A nice presentation. The metal of the backplates, is cast metal with a lovely light pewter finish. Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice.
