Unusual vintage cake slice - silver plate slice with horn handle and finial modelled as a bird. The bird has brass and inlaid enamel wings and a coxcomb made of red coral. Whole measures 28.5 cm long. Very good condition. Probably mid 20th century. Maker is S. & A. Haddad.   « Less

1920s-30s silver plated case with chain handle - opens to reveal a place for calling cards or even a cigarette or two in the lid, two coin slots for change, and another compartment that may have been for makeup or maybe a currency bill. Item measures 9 cm by 6.1 cm. It has a shallow line dent in the rear, and also on the rear some scuffs commensurate with age. The interior looks like new - the springs in the coin slots are still very firm, and the gilded interior is in excellent condition. The front of the case is also in excellent condition. Grey pewter finished single light pendant with ambered streamline glass ceiling bowl. This fixture is perfect for a smaller room or hallway. Measurements: •Height: 10" •Diameter: 14" The bowl is lit by 3 standard sockets within, with each socket UL rated to accept up to 100 watts. If using an incandescent light bulb, we recommend no more than 60 to 65 watts to protect the antique shade from too much heat. If more light is needed, we recommend LED or compact fluorescent light bulbs, because these emit much more light without the excess heat so characteristic of incandescent light bulbs. A note about the product pictures: We always use small 25 watt or lower bulbs in our pictures so the detail of the light fixture itself is revealed. Cast and signed 1939 Art Deco sconces that can be found in Virden catalog #39 (i.e. 1939 as the catalog number reflected the year it was published). These sconces were item 6001 from the "Carleton Series". Virden bragged in its description: “Underwriters Approved”. The finish is pewter, and the shades have the typical concentric rings so very iconic of the Streamline era. Electrical: These sconces have been totally rewired in our UL shop. Normal bakelite sockets for everyday medium base bulbs was installed. The backplate has a rotary On/Off switch. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied. Measurements: •Overall Height: 7 ½" from the top of the shade to the bottom of the metal backplate. •Overall Width: 7” •Projection: 4” from the wall into the room. Lovely little Victorian English bon-bon dish, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1898. Maker's mark is W.D., being probably either William Deakin or William Devenport. Dish measures 2 cm high by 9 cm diameter. The pattern is an ornate flower head internally with petals of both plain and embossed flowers. Cut work pattern to sides. There is a fault, being a tear on the lip of the rim, extending down the side about 1.3 cm, repairable by a silversmith. We have priced accordingly. Otherwise, a lovely little dish and typical of the period.   « Less

Real crafts people here. The sconces are made from solid brass, and have been rewired to accept 100 watt bulbs. Sconces have been rewired in our UL shop. The sconces mount with a special crossbar that picks up mounting screws at the very top and bottom of the backplate. We assume that that this was done to prevent holes from being drilled in the center of the motif. Lovely pair of Circa 1920 wall sconces. Original antique backplates with nice frosted and ruby tipped shades. These pewter finish sconces have a formal Edwardian ambiance, but with a more restrained backplate design that is so typical of the Edwardian design style. Almost reminds you of an Art Nouveau...but not quite. The metal of the backplates is cast zinc and aluminum, with a lovely pewter finish.
