Circa: 1885-1910 Note: Two Notes Found With The Painting Relate That The Painting Was Done By Livinia Webber, New England, 19th Century, And Titled ''Skating On Torsey Pond,'' About 1835, Gouache.'' The Other Note Is Inscribed ''Skating On Torsey Pond Is A New Hampshire Winter Scene Painted In 1837.....'' Due To The History Of Hockey Earliest Record Being Just Prior To 1790-1800 Played With A Ball Not A Puck It Is Possible That The Attached Note Be Of Consideration But Due To The Overall Remote Subject Matter, The History Of Skiing, The Design Layout, Style, Clothing It Is More Appropriate To Attribute The Painting To Be Completed Around 1885-1910. Maggs (John Charles Maggs 1819-1882) Each Circa: 1880. J. C. Maggs lived on Gay Street in Bath England. He was a master of this genre and widely patronized including ''Queen Victoria'' purchased his work. Both works are signed lower left J.C. Maggs - 1880. Reframed and relined in 1930. Work completed by D. B. Butler & Co, 126 East. 57th Street. NYC. Maggs seldom had two coaches in one painting - which supports the larger than normal size of each work.
