This a beautifully designed bowl that features a central roundel of a ladies tending to the cocoons of silkworms after they have been treated for unwinding. Behind the scene are arranged two overlapping squares rather like piece of silk, one gold with cranes flying over the sea, the other a diaper pattern of deep green and red emamel, both bordered with enamel black. Peaceful hills with trees and buildings surround with enamels of green, pale aubergine and soft yellow. The fabrics and hills return in different form on the outer sides. Mint condition. Japan, circa 1840. Approximately 9-1/2 inches in diameter by 3-1/2 inches deep. « Less

This snowy bowl always remind me of Christmas: the deer on the hill beneath the pine boughs seem to looking skyward for a star. The blue underglaze designs are intricate, but very soft and only confined to a central trellis-like medallion and a border on the bottom; it is relieved by bold red enamel rectangles and turquoise-surrounded roundels of phoenixes. The gilding is lavish yet restrained. Japan, circa 1860. Excellent condition. Approximately 11-3/8 inches in diameter by 3-3/4 inches deep. « Less

This highly decorative shallow bowl, a major product of the Seto kilns, depicts the encounter of a beautiful and elegant Japanese woman and fierce-looking bearded man with some sort of evil intent in mind. Oh, you know the story... Well, frankly I don't, but if I find out, I will write it in. Anyhow, the whole thing is illustrated in elaborate colored enamels and gilt on the finely potted body with a crackled glaze. The condition is excellent, with only one small firing bubble that has burst (see closeup photograph). A superb piece of ceramic artistry with great presence. Approximately 14-1/4 inches in diameter and 2-3/4 inches high. Probably dates from around 1870. « Less

A Longquan cup was in rarely-seen Chrysanthemum shape. Finely mold and was applied with pale green agate-feel glaze on the surface, the cup was stand on a small foot ring which in slightly everted wall. A molding navel was in the center of the foot ring when darken brownish tint was revealed at the body clay. Glaze crackles and obvious incursions were happened to the glaze. The cup was finely shaped and was well glazed as those documentary counterparts. But some firing defects were happened in the cavetto. They were caused by falling ashes of the firing wood. « Less

With high chignon and a sitting Buddha in front of the beaded decoration on top of his head, the Bodhisattva owned the full cheek and narrowed mouth as serene and characteristic features of Tang Buddhas. He hold in his right with flowers when a purify bottle was in his left hand. The pedestal he was sitting was decorated with lotus petals on the underside. It was the upper part of a double-decked base.
