Very rare and unusual ring set with 5 jelly opals that are natural as they are rare. When opals are clear and colourless, this type of opal is referred to as ''water'' or ''jelly'' opal. The look of these is amazing. At one direction they look colorless another flashed dark blues and greens and in others they look like moonstones. Very rare encountered and many jewelers are not even aware they exist. Sized at a 6.5 and quite hefty at .3 of a ounce of gold. No damage and circa 1930. The Romans established opal as a precious gemstone, obtaining their supplies from traders in the Middle East. They believed the opal was a combination of the beauty of all precious stones. They ranked opal second only to emeralds, and carried opal as a good luck charm or talisman because it was believed that like the rainbow, opal brought its owner good fortune. The necklace contains 28 pieces of bakelite alternating between green and butterscotch. It also has a brass flower clasp and 6 brass dangly balls at each end. The bracelet contains 15 pieces of alternating bakelite and 5 balls on each end with the same brass flower clasp. The earrings match and came from the same estate and go with the set. The bracelet measures 8'' with out counting the dangles, the necklace measures 15'' without dangles and the earrings measure 1.25'' across.
