Cast 1939 Art Deco sconces signed that are in the Virden catalog #39 (i.e. 1939 as the catalog number reflected the year it was published). These sconces were item 6001 from the Carleton Series and Virden bragged: “Underwriters Approvedâ€.
The finish is pewter while the shades have that typical streamline concentric rings which are so very iconic streamline design.
Please note the original casting blemish on the one sconce. Shown plainly in the pictures. It is original and was originally sold that way. Interesting that they let it out of the factory this way but America was still in the height of the depression, at that time, and everyone thought THREE times before eliminating anything in those difficult days.
Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Normal bakelite sockets for everyday medium base bulbs was installed. The backplate has a rotary switch for on and off. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied.
Measurements: Overall height is 7 1/2†from the top of the shade to the bottom of the metal backplate. Overall widest part of the case is 7†wide. Projects into the room 4â€.
Price: $650.00 for the pair plus $20.00 for careful packing and ground shipping within the contiguous 48 states. Residents of Alaska/Hawaii and International Customers, please call 360-379-9030 for a shipping quote. « Less

Nice pair of Circa 1920 wall sconces. Original “hammered effect†pewter finished sconces with crackle ground and floral shades.
These sconces have a lovely Edwardian pewter look and a great design that is so typical of the Edwardian Arts & Crafts style.
The original antique shades are also so very nice. They have a clear ban at the top with a floral motif and a crackle color below the ban. Very attractive.
The metal of the backplates, is cast metal with a lovely pewter finish. Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice. We would recommend our LED candelabrum bulbs, 35C-E26 if you wish ambient light rather than full room power. The ambiance of these bulbs is warm and they draw so little electricity (1.6 watts) that we have known folks who leave them on 24/7. The bulbs do have an expected life of 25,000 - 30,000 hours.
These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with new sockets and all new wire. We have also replaced the rotary switches, made by Leviton in the 20’s...and were still made up to ONE year ago. So these switches by Leviton are becoming even more antique as we note this.
Measurements: The overall sconce height is 11â€. The maximum width (shade) is 5 1/2â€. It will project into the room, from the wall 7 1/2â€. The backplate, by itself, measures 11†tall by 4â€.
Price for the complete pair: $350.00 plus $20.00 for careful packing and ground shipping within the contiguous 48 states. Residents of Alaska/Hawaii and International Customers, please call 360-379-9030 for a shipping quote. « Less

Set of FOUR sconces with lovely poly-chrome original coloring. Circa 1920's, the frames were cast and artists hand painted the remarkable variation of old gold and white poly-chrome colors. Really quite attractive and striking.
The shades are in great condition with only a couple of minor chips where they go into the fitter...not seen after installation. The shade has two distinct areas...there is the yellowish crackled ground and then the clear band on floral decor. Then the same yellowish ground is repeated at the very top rim. A very nice appealing combination.
Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Normal sockets, for everyday medium base bulbs, were installed in each sconce. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied. There is no switch on each sconce, but they could be added for a small additional cost.
Measurements: 9 7/8†tall by 5 5/8†wide and projects into the room from the wall 6 3/4â€. The backplate measures 4†at the widest point x 9 7/8†tall.
A real value is to find a matching set of 4 sconces in this remarkable condition.
Price for complete set of four: $795.00 as shown, plus $30.00 for ground shipping within the contiguous 48 states. Residents of Alaska/Hawaii and International Customers, please call 360-379-9030 for a shipping quote. « Less

Late 19th century Victorian teapot stand - quite a large one, with four little ball feet. The motif in the beadwork is echoed in the parquetry around the lower edge of the frame. Berlin wool work, with beads. Condition: Frame is in very good condition, just a few marks and scars as befits age. The Berlin work has some absences (possibly small insect damage) and the beads have many losses, especially in the large areas of white surrounding the shaped motif. Actually, as these are fairly evenly spread out, it just gives a speckled effect. However, the thread of the beads is very fragile, and losses will continue. Interesting piece of Victoriana, perfect for display. Measures 23.5 cm square and 4.75 cm high (9.1/4 inches by 1.3/4 inches). « Less
