Pretty china menu boards with ribbon decoration at top. The face of the board is slightly matt glaze, and you can write in pencil on this. One at each end of the dining table with the meal's menu on each. They each have a full British 19th century registration mark for 1875. Impressed maker's mark on rear, too faint to read, but possibly Mintons. Each board measures 13.5 cm high and about 10 cm wide. They have fixed easel legs to the rear. Excellent condition with just a few rubs to the paint colours. One has firing specks in the rear. Very unusual and quite rare to see them from the Victorian period. « Less

This is a good example of its type and is identical in pattern to that on a tankard in the Topkapi Sarayi Museum.
This large dish one of five I will be listing is from a private collection formed in Turkey and purchased by me some years ago in Istanbul.
The cuerda-seca technique is where the enamels are seperated by small area which has been treated prior to glazing with a resist.
The dish has a diameter of 143/8 in. or 36.5cm.
It is in good conditioon with on;ly a couple of old chips to the rim,no restoration or breakage or cracks.
Canakkale ceramics were made from the 17thc through to the late 19thc in earthernware of a reddish or buff coloured body. The early examples are the best the 19thc pieces are interesting in their variation in design « Less

This is an exceedingly rare piece of Canakkale though the design is recognisable from the more usual brown glazed pieces. It would date to the earliest period of thee pottery which is late 17th early 18thc.It is decorated in underglaze blue and brown with a central floral motif and aband of oranges or other fruit,The border is a meandering brown or dark aubergine.
As with all these pieces it is slip glazed on a pottery body in this case a buff colour with a wide flat foot.It is then painted in blue and brown and clear glazed over top.A very attractive piece in good condition with only minor fritting to rim. This is from the same collection as the others I am listing.
The dish of relatively light weight for its size has a diameter of 13 3/4in or 34.5 cm.
These pieces are becoming very sought after but there is still much research to be done on them.As can be seen from the back this has been excavated. « Less
