Pretty pair of Victorian candlesticks, made by the Adams pottery, Tunstall, Staffordshire. Their mark dates them to late 19th century, post 1896. Lovely dark navy blue with classical scenes and borders of flowers and leaves. One has a chip on the sconce (see photos - the marks around the rims are just old wax, swhich comes off with warm to hot water), but this is an easy restoration if required. The other has an uneven patch under the rim of the sconce, which could possibly be an old restoration. They each measure 15 cm high with a base of 11 cm diameter (6 inches by 4.1/4 inches). Very attractive pair. « Less

For Sale is a lovely Window Box Planter imported by P.H. Leonard of New York from the Count Thun porcelain factory in Klasterec, Czech Republic. The planter is oblong and measures 4 5/8" tall, 10" long and is 5 1/2" deep.
The Planter displays Daisies in full bloom all around the top that are accented by the Gold gilt rim. The daisies appear to grow out of a field of grass and you can faintly see their delicate stems. There is a waterproof clear glaze on the interior of the piece so it can be put to use. This planter would look lovely with an Ivy or any other plant proudly displayed on your windowsill or for a table centerpiece.
The Planter is bisque with no glaze over the bottom exterior so it has some staining along the outer edges that do not show when the Planter is upright. It has the Ink Stamp that reads "VIENNA AUSTRIA" that is attributed to P.H. Leonard. There is also number 42 over 13 as well as a cross type of mark. There is an impressed "TK" in block letters over this same style of a number 1 in a different area as well. They are not inked so very difficult to photograph these marks.
The Planter is considered to be in Very Good to Excellent Condition as there are no chips, cracks, nicks or dings. There is minimal loss around the top edge gold accents as this planter was previously used. It does not detract from the beauty of this window box however I have priced this piece moderately due to the wear.
The Planter was made Circa 1890-1908. « Less

For Sale is a wonderful hand painted Cup made by "The Saturday Evening Girls" (SEG) Pottery Company" of Boston, Mass. This cup is painted in the highly collected "Lotus Blossom" pattern. The Cup is dainty as it stands 2" Tall and is 3 5/8" in diameter outside handle measurement. The Cup itself is only 2 7/8" in diameter.
The Cup Displays a very Arts and Crafts Style Pattern of Lotus Flowers that sit on a wavy band. The root of the Blossoms are caught between these wavy bands that are outlined in a black glaze. The Lotus Blossom itself is set a against a matte mustard yellow background. The matt mustard yellow background is also locked between an uneven border on the bottom to a straight and even border at the top. This is considered a 3 glazed color SEG cup.
The Cup is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is heavy crazing through out. The cup is signed on the underside bottom in a black script glaze that reads "S.E.G. 1-20" for the year and month of manufacture which is "January 1920". There are also the Initials "E" joined to the letter "G" for the SEG Artist, Eva Geneco.

For Sale is a hard to find piece of Art Pottery made by "The Saturday Evening Girls" (SEG) Pottery Company" of Boston, Mass. The item is an "Berry Bowl". The Bowl has a low profile. It stands 1 3/8 tall and is 4 1/2" in diameter at it widest point. The inside opening is 3 1/8" in diameter.
The Bowl displays a squat form with a rolled edge. It has a very pleasing Matte Mustard Yellow background glaze. The Berry Bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is an Insignificant glaze flake on the underside bottom pictured. The Bowl is signed by the Artist on the underside bottom. It is done in a black glaze that reads "T G" or "J E" or "J G" but I'm not sure. I have been unable to find any SEG Artist in my books with those initials. I welcome any information if someone knows the name. This more than likely carried a Paper Label at one time as well.
For those of you who want to learn more about SEG/Paul Revere Pottery I will attach a link to a web page that gives a brief but very descriptive information about them. Here it is http://www.journalofantiques.com/Jan06/feature.html just click on this link and it will bring you to it.
This is a quality solid piece of Art Pottery. These Berry Bowls are very hard to come by in this Glaze. These were used and they were often broken and discarded. Here is your chance to own one in excellent condition. I'm sure the Buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase. This piece was made Circa, 1915-1920. « Less

For Sale is a wonderful piece of pottery made by Vance Faience Company of Tiltonville, Ohio. I have a rather larger Pitcher with a unique handle. The Pitcher has some size to it as it stands 9 7/8" tall and is approximately 8 3/8" in diameter at the widest part of the spout and back side of the handle. The rim measures 4" across inside measurement tapering smaller as it gets to the spout.
The Pitcher has a wonderful Matte dark Cucumber Green Glaze that is pretty uniform throughout. The Pitcher depicts an embossed Hunt Scene of Dog chasing a Stag and Boar through Grapevines with a Meadow in the background. The detail is quite detailed. The Pitcher is further finished with a Molded Handle that resembles a Greyhound Dog. The ring of the underside foot is unglazed.
It is believed that the Vance Faience Company made this Pitcher from an early Bennington Pottery mold. This matte green glaze was made at the when all the other American Potters were using this matte green glaze that was extremely popular at the turn of the century.
The Pitcher is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The only issue is a small one as there is few areas on the side in which there are thinning in the glaze and you can see the white/beige clay underneath. These are pictured and I personally think it adds character to the piece. The piece is unsigned but it is a well documented form from The Vance Faience, Company.
This is a wonderful and Rare Pitcher to find in this condition. Usually there is damage to the handle but this one has none. That fact that it has survived 110-115 years without any damage is amazing!! This Pitcher will work just fine in any Arts & Crafts Mission Style Decor. This pitcher was made at the turn of the century, Circa 1898-1902. « Less

For Sale is a wonderful piece of art pottery made by The Grueby Pottery Company of Boston, Mass. The item is called a "Low or Bulb Bowl" and it is done in their desirable thick matte curdled green glaze. The bowl has some size as it stands 1 5/8" tall and 9 3/8" in diameter.
The Bowl has a nice low profile. It has a very organic feel to it and it displays a very beautiful deep rich Leathery Matte Green Glaze. This is further accented with curdling in the Glaze. This is one of the Matt green Glazes that made Grueby Pottery famous and their pieces highly sought after by the Arts & Crafts collectors. This piece is hand thrown and you can see the horizontal indented rows on the exterior created by the Potters fingers. The inside has a glossy interior that has a celery green to dark green color and swirl pattern.
The Bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is some wear to the glossy interior as you can see several scratches. This is typical and commensurate with its age. The Bowl is signed with Grueby's impressed circular signature mark which reads, "Grueby Pottery Boston USA" with the Flower emblem impressed in the middle. This is somewhat obscured by the glaze on the bottom but you can clearly see its the circular mark. There is also a square made in the green glaze. Great identifying mark if this was ever stolen.
This is a very desirable shape and I'm sure the buyer will be quite pleased with it. Grueby Pottery has long been a favorite amongst the Arts & Crafts Pottery Collectors. Their Pottery has proven to be a sound investment even in the toughest of times. This is a nice example in very good condition and it will look just Great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Cabinet, bookcase or Table.
Living just north of Boston has given me the opportunity to find some of the most unique matte green Grueby and Hampshire Pottery through the years. This piece is considered to be an early piece from Grueby Pottery and was made Circa 1899-1903. « Less

For Sale is a wonderful and early form made by The Hampshire Pottery of Keene, New Hampshire. The form is call an "Artichoke" Vase and it is in the very desirable Matte Cucumber Green Glaze. The Vase stands 2 3/4" tall and is 4 3/4" in diameter.
The Embossed Exterior of Vase displays a very realistic appearance of an "Artichoke". It has an outstanding matte Cucumber Green Glaze that resembles real Cucumber skin. The Leaves look Hand Carved with wonderful Veining running throught this nice vase. The Form is crisp and very well detailed. Some refer to this as a Cabbage Shape but it is really an Artichoke.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition free of nicks, chips, dings and hairlines. When looking directly into the Vase it is not perfectly symetrically and really has that hand and mold made look. The piece is signed with "Mount Vernon" written in block letters with the same green glaze as the vase. There is the Start of the letter "H" in Hampshire above this but the rest has been blocked out. The raised mold number 24 can clearly be seen and this is the shape number in the Hampshire Catalog pages. The Vase has that nicely ground bottom along with Hampshire Pottery's white clay bottom. You folks who collect and deal in Matte Green Art Pottery know exactly what you are looking at.
It is my belief that Hampshire Pottery made this for "Mount Vernon" and I suspect it is the gift shop at George Washington, our First President 's estate. I would have to do further research to confirm this. I have owned at least 20 of these through the years and seen another 20-30 for sale. I have never had any of them signed in this manner and would consider this quite rare. I guess this would be considered an advertising piece as well.
Hampshire Pottery started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor "Grueby Faience" of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. It is my assumption that this is an earlier piece of Hampshire. The M in a circle mark was used from 1904-1914. I would guess this piece was made, Circa 1898-1903.
This will make a wonderful addition to any matte Pottery collection of Art Pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase. « Less
