The famous Edward C. Moore designed the Persian Tiffany sterling silver flatware pattern which was patented in 1872, being introduced in the same year. This ladle is the size needed for a tureen. Moore had a large collection of Orientalia, including much Near Eastern artwork with examples from Persia, Syria, and India. Those interests had significant influence on the design of the Persian sterling silver flatware pattern. We see moresque designs with intricate, interlocking scrolls. The design is complex, with flowers and foliage interwoven within a network of arches and swirles with unusual geometric shape. Both the front and the back of the handles are completely covered with ornamentation except for an open space on the termnal front for engraving. On this sterling silver ladle there is an entwined script monogram with the letters L and A. The designs on the lower shanks are the same but the designs on the front and back of the terminal are different. It is a well balanced ladle with an attractive curved shank. This Tiffany sterling Persian pattern ladle, 11" long, is a "must" in a Tiffany collection. Nice weight. Excellent condition. « Less
