A Victorian / Edwardian fire screen made of mahogany wood with hand embroidered needlework inset.29inches high and 27 1/2inches accross.Mahogany frame with simple wooden scrolls attached on top. Nice patina to old wood, which is in very good condition. Mortise and Tennon joinery.Embroidery on front of screen depicts a variety of fruit, butterflies, birds and a squirrel. Very exciting workmanship and bright colours. There is some wear to the background cloth, including at least 3 places where it has split and one missing patch that should all be restored. A god/man rushes against the wind, holding out a beaker as an offering. Dragons at his feet. In another scene, a bearded sage rides a horse through wildly sinuous natural setting. Signed French Art Nouveau sculpture and onyx mantel clock with figures of 2 women and lovebirds. Late 19th century.Measurements: base is just under 14 1/2inches wide and 8 1/2inches high. Total height is 29inches.Beautiful marbled onyx in a soft almost luminous green. Gilt metal scrolling foliate mounts and highlights. Porcelain dial with black Arabic numerals and handpainted floral swag. Delicate gilt metal hands. The name of the firm is worn. Onyx has age ''cracks'', but they are only superficial and not damage of any sort.Delicate metal grille covers the clock''s movement at the back. See photos for details. The mechanism does work and chimes, but it needs a clean.The spelter figures of 2 women with lovebirds embody everything Art Nouveau. Graceful, romantic and sensuous. Partly clad - their dresses seem to emphasize the bodies underneath - indeed 1 breast is entirely bare. Great detail to pretty smiling faces, muscles and feathers of birds. 2 of the birds were professionally reattached. Very early Sheffield plated night candlestick. Dates to late 18th or early 19th century. Made in England. 2 1/4inches high. 6 1/4inches accross. Very pretty ornate shaped border. Repousse shells and leaves Sides with scrolling fluted and curved badges. Center with pierced base fence around candle holder. Hand / thumb piece curved and oval. Like all genuine old Sheffield silver, there is a large amount of bleeding, where the copper shows through the silver. Very gentle and beautiful old patina. Japanese ivory okimono, probably 19th century, possibly very early, depicting a hunter capturing an eagle.7 1/2inches long.5inches high.A hunter stands astride an eagle, it''s outstretched wings forming the base of the group. Hooked beak open as though shouting in anger. The hunter, belt and jacket flying as he moves swiftly, holds a looped rope with which to tie up the bird, one hand holding it down below the neck. His face is steeped in concentration. The detail of this group is fantastic. Turn it upside down and it is equally beautiful - the wings, each feather of which is carved and etched, rest on a leafy branch.Behind the man is his quiver with some arrows removed.The ivory has a wonderful buttery patina, only to be found in very old pieces. The exceptional quality of the sculpting is also not to be found in anything made for well over 100 years.Condition is very good. I found one tiny rectangle missing from the branch underneath. Exceptional genuine elephant ivory figure of a woman, carved, I believe no later than the 18th century. Measures 8 3/8inches excluding the base. 9 1/2inches high including the base.Old ivory has incredible butterly patina - smootheness that only centuries can produce.Upon first glance, the figurine looks fairly stylised, but closer inspection reveals amazing subtlety and delicately carved detail. She wears a finely carved long dress with delicate folds and scallops at the bottom, revealing the tips of her feet. Her hands are enclosed in a muff or cascading cloth. Her face is magnificent: wonderful detail to features. A subtle smile plays around her mouth, she has marvellous dimples, a very slight double chin, eyes closed in pleasure and an amazing complex hairstyle that only a rich noblewoman could have sported. Ears are long and spiralling.Ebonised wooden base in the form of a double flower.Excellent condition.No damage of any sort. Made in France late 19th century.Measures 3inches high and 4 3/4inches accross.Magnificent rich forest green glass. Round shape, neck has 10 facets.Foot enclosed in a gilt metal ring with raised foliage and berries. 4 quintessial Nouveau flowers are attached to the glass on the sides, each depicting a flower with elegantly scrolling petals and assymetrical foliage. The lid is gold plated and has applied buds, foliage of various sorts and a marvellous medallion with the bust of a woman in 3/4 back view, turning to face the front. Elegant back and shoulders, flowers and bows in hair, radiating sunburst effect. Condition is MINT. No damage or flaws of any sort.
